JUST IN | MMMH&MC Bags Gold Award on the International Stage

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) proudly received the GOLD WINNER award in the International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards 2025 – American College of Healthcare Executives Excellence Award for Leadership and Management for its entry, “Amplifying Hope: Leadership in Scaling Newborn Screening Success through Regional Communication” in Geneva, Switzerland, last November 12, 2025.

In 2025, there were over 700 entries from hospitals across the globe for the IHF Awards, with only 81 finalists shortlisted across eight award categories.

This prestigious award is a celebration of the people behind the work — those who lead with compassion, embrace innovation, and continuously strive to make healthcare better for everyone.

A positive result on your baby's Newborn Screening (NBS) can be a little worrying, but we're here to help.

We're happy to announce that our Trained Confirmatory Sample Collection Sites 🏨 in Region 1 are now ready to serve you. These dedicated sites are equipped to collect confirmatory samples for babies who have screened positive for any of the Expanded Newborn Screening (ENBS) Disorders.

🩸This confirmatory test is a crucial next step to ensure your baby gets the best care possible, and it’s a quick process performed by trained health professionals.

Here's what you need to know:

1️⃣If your baby if screened positive, please coordinate with your healthcare provider, as instructed by the NSC-NL Short-term Follow-Up Nurses

2️⃣If needed, they will direct you to the nearest collection site from the list below.

3️⃣The trained staff will guide you through the process, ensuring a safe and accurate sample collection.

Over the past half-decade, the ENBS Caravan has traveled far and wide, bringing life-saving health services directly to communities. We are proud to be a living example of NBS OPPA: Opportunities, Practices, Progress, and Advances—turning potential into reality for hundreds of families.

On October 8, 2025, a heartwarming event unfolded in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, as grandparents came together for the Expanded Newborn Screening (ENBS) Forum. This forum, a partnership between the Newborn Screening Center - Northern Luzon and the MMMHMC Geriatric Center, emphasized the vital role of grandparents in a child's health journey.

Participants learned about the life-saving benefits of ENBS, a simple test that detects serious health conditions in newborns. The event also offered free immunizations and physical wellness sessions for the grandparents themselves, reminding everyone that self-care is a gift to the family.

This forum highlights a powerful collaboration between modern medicine and the wisdom of our elders, building a healthier future, one family at a time.
