Guidance for All Newborn Screening Facilities (NSFs) in Ilocos and Cagayan Valley Regions

✔️ Ensure quality of newborn screening samples collected.
✔️ Keep all samples safe, dry, and protected until transport is secured
✔️ If conditions are unsafe, store NBS Samples properly (Wrap samples individually in a
clean sheet of paper after drying.Place in a sealed plastic container and store in a refrigerator
freezer (-10C to -20C)
✔️ Report any delays or issues to the Newborn Screening Center – Northern Luzon (NSC-NL).

This Sept. 13 in Laoag City, the Newborn Screening (NBS) Program takes part in the Handog ng Pangulo Medical Mission, for the very first time.

Through NBS, we can detect serious but treatable conditions early, giving babies the chance to live healthier, fuller lives. 🍼💖

Services on site includes G6PD Confirmatory Sample Collection and Repeat NBS Sample Collection.

DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa Witnesses Newborn Screening Activity in Ilocos Norte

"This is my first Newborn Screening Activity," said DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa at the 9th Northern Luzon Consultative Meeting and Quality Assurance Workshop in Laoag City.

RD Paula Sydiongco also join the team and emphasize the importance of quality assurance in healthcare delivery.

Held at the Sola Hotel, the event's core purpose was to ensure the quality of the Newborn Screening (NBS) Program in all its aspects. The meeting was attended by key NBS stakeholders from Regions 1 and 2, all dedicated to maintaining a high standard of care for newborns. This year, the collaborative team has been joined by the Institute of Human Genetics - Center for Human Genetics Services, further solidifying the commitment to infant health and program excellence in Northern Luzon.

Out of more than 700 entries from hospitals and healthcare institutions across 38 countries and territories, only 81 finalists have been shortlisted after a rigorous judging process.

The winners—Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honourable Mentions—will be announced at the prestigious IHF Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception on 12 November, during the 48th IHF World Hospital Congress in Geneva. For the past eight years, the Newborn Screening Center - Northern Luzon (NSC-NL) at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center has amplified this hope, standing as a steadfast beacon for newborns across Ilocos and Cagayan Valley Regions.

The tireless dedication of NSC-NL to early detection has transformed countless beginnings, paving the way for healthier children and brighter futures.
