Hey everyone! 👋 You might have heard more about MPOX recently, and it's important to stay informed. We've seen a few new cases in the Philippines, including a 3-year-old girl in Zamboanga Sibugay and 10 cases in South Cotabato.
The Department of Health (DOH) emphasizes that it spreads mainly through close skin-to-skin contact, not easily airborne like other viruses. DOH Spokesperson Albert Domingo also reminded the public, "...hindi lahat ng butlig ay mpox..." so awareness of the specific symptoms can be useful.
With that, we've put together a simple comparison table to show how MPOX is different from other more common rash and fever illnesses you might already know about.
BIG REMINDER: Please, please, please don't self-diagnose! 🙏 Rash and fever can be tricky, and there are many causes. The best thing to do is call your pediatrician right away! They'll tell you what to do and what to expect. A check up in the ER isolation room might be needed.
A super important note: Always keep anyone with a rash and fever away from other babies, pregnant moms, the elderly, and those undergoing cancer treatment because they can easily get infected.
