Little Beacon is the brainchild of two therapists: Teacher Aileen, a Speech-Language Pathologist, and Teacher Vene, an Occupational Therapist. They have always wanted to put up a center that will stay true to the values that they uphold because they know that their mission is to shine light on individuals with specials needs and their families.
Community, Collaboration, and Comprehensiveness.
These are the 3Cโs that they have always believed in.
Little Beacon believes in the saying that โit takes a village to raise a child.โ It recognizes that a childโs context does not just evolve around the clinic. All the other contexts that the child is present in are given equal importance. As a family-centered clinic, Little Beacon values the role of family in this journey of therapeutic intervention. Aileen and Vene have always believed that the family is the constant in a childโs life, and itโs best that they are empowered to make informed decisions and follow-up at home.
School, on the other hand, is just as important as the home.Teachers are our partners in improving these kidsโ quality of lives, Kids are in school for 5 days a week for at least 2 hours per day depending on their grade level. At Little Beacon, we ensure that we know everything that is happening in your childโs life; hence, our school visits.
Collaboration
Aside from being a family-centered clinic, Little Beacon believes in an interdisciplinary and a collaborative approach to doing therapy for our pediatric clients. We believe that each and every profession is of equal value. God created human beings as a whole; a person is not just a mouth, or an arm, or a foot. Therefore, our approach should also be holistic in nature. This is made possible by collaborating with professionals inside and outside the clinic: SLPโs, OTโs, PTโs, Doctors, SpEd and regular school teachers, family members, and even tutors to name a few.
A lot of factors affect a childโs performance and progress, and for us to better understand our learners, we have to consult all the members of the team whom the child interacts with everyday. This way, we will be able to provide the best intervention plan while considering the inputs of all the team members.
Comprehensiveness
Comprehensiveness is important in evaluation and intervention processes. All data should be exhausted from all sources so that a complete report can be made. We aim to provide a complete picture, not just of the skills of the child, but also of the tasks, activities, and demands given to him, and the environments and contexts that the child is involved in. This way, we do not just put the pressure on the child, but we make the family and ourselves accountable as well. Our programs are the results of comprehensive evaluations of our therapists at Little Beacon.
