Hepatitis B is a serious viral infection that affects the liver and can lead to long-term complications such as cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer. But the good news is—it’s preventable.
A safe and effective vaccine is available and recommended for all infants at birth, children, and adults at risk. The vaccine is usually given in a series of doses and can provide protection that lasts for decades, possibly for life. It’s even called the world’s first “anti-cancer vaccine” because it helps prevent liver cancer caused by hepatitis B.
Hepatitis B is not spread through casual contact. It is transmitted through infected blood or bodily fluids. That’s why testing and vaccination are important steps to protect yourself and those you live and work closely with.
Take action. Know your status. Talk to a healthcare provider about getting tested and vaccinated. A few shots can protect you for a lifetime.
