READ: The Department of Health (Philippines) on Friday (Jan. 3, 2025) allays fears over an alleged international health concern which circulates on social media. It says reliable sources currently do not support these posts.
The DOH adds there is no confirmation from either the cited country or the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to some social media posts, a new epidemic is overwhelming hospitals and crematories in China and certain provinces already declared state of emergency. The posts claimed that it involves influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumonia, and Covid-19.
DOH: The Philippines through the DOH is an active participant in the network of WHO Member States that follow the International Health Regulations (IHR). This established system is what gives reliable updates about international health concerns.
Philippine disease surveillance systems are in place and working.
