🟠January is World Leprosy Day

ALAMIN ANG KETONG (LEPROSY / HANSEN’S DISEASE)

Ang leprosy o ketong (tinatawag ding Hansen’s disease) ay isang nakakahawang sakit na dulot ng bakterya na Mycobacterium leprae. Pangunahing naaapektuhan nito ang balat, mga ugat (nerbiyos), mata, at ilong.

📌 Mahahalagang impormasyon tungkol sa leprosy:
• Hindi ito madaling mahawa. Kailangan ng matagal at malapit na pakikisalamuha upang mahawa.
• May lunas ang leprosy. Ito ay nagagamot sa pamamagitan ng Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) na libre sa mga health center.
• Kapag maagang natukoy at nagamot, naiiwasan ang kapansanan at komplikasyon.

📌 Mga karaniwang sintomas:
• Mapuputla o mapulang patse sa balat na walang pakiramdam
• Pamamanhid o panghihina ng kamay at paa
• Mga sugat na hindi masakit
• Pagkapal ng nerbiyos

📌 Mahalagang paalala:
👉 Kapag nagsimula na ang gamutan, hindi na nakakahawa ang may leprosy.
👉 Walang dapat ikatakot o ikahiya—mas mahalaga ang maagang pagpapatingin.

The Municipality of Villaverde successfully conducted its Firecrackers Injury Prevention Month activity with the theme “Ligtas Christmas” at the LGU Gymnasium, in coordination with the Provincial Integrated Health Office, Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development, and PDOHO. The event aimed to remind the community about the dangers of firecrackers and to encourage safer and injury-free ways of celebrating the holiday season.

To make the activity more engaging, the program featured two friendly competitions: the Parol Making Contest and the Caroling Contest, participated in by the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and Barangay Tanods from the different barangays of Villaverde. Each group showcased their creativity and talent while promoting a safe and meaningful Christmas celebration without the use of harmful firecrackers.

The activity served not only as an avenue for showcasing craftsmanship and community spirit, but also as a reminder that a joyful Christmas can be celebrated safely through alternative practices. The “Ligtas Christmas” event ended with the awarding of winners and expressions of gratitude to all participants and supporters.
