For Leptospirosis
post exposure prophylaxis:
1. Low risk exposure- single history of wading in flood without wounds or open lesions:
Doxycycline 200mg as single dose within 24-72 hours from exposure
2. Moderate-risk exposure- single history of wading in flood and presence of wounds or open lesions or accidental ingestion of contaminated water
Doxycycline 200mg daily for 3-5 days within 24-72 hours from exposure
3. High-risk exposure- with continuous exposure or many days such as those residing in flooded areas, with or without wounds; swimming in waters with domestic/sewer rats and intake of contaminated water
Doxycycline 200mg once a week until end of exposure
Pre-exposure prophylaxis is not recommended: kindly do not intentionally expose yourselves to flood waters or contaminated waters, but if you are planning to visit endemic areas and may be exposed:
Doxycycline 200mg weekly: to start 1-2 days prior the exposure and until end of exposure
For pregnant and lactating women:
Azithromycin 500mg as single dose within 24-72 hours from exposure
