Get to know the facts about Leptospirosis.
• Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection you can catch from animal urine—especially from rodents—when contaminated water or soil enters your eyes, nose, mouth, or skin cuts. With symptoms ranging from mild flu-like signs to life-threatening organ failure, prevention through simple hygiene, protective gear, and clean water is key.
There are several symptoms that may occur upon suspecting if infected or not. Immediate symptoms are the following:
• Fever
• Headache
• Muscle Pain
• Nausea and Vomitting
• Bleeding (Nosebleed, Gum Bleed, Blood in urine)
• Redness or Irritation of the eyes.
and many more. In contrary, there are certain ways to mitigate these symptoms and this includes the following:
• Avoid wading or swimming in floodwaters.
• Wear protective footwear and clothing if you must be in contact with contaminated areas.
• Keep your surroundings clean to prevent rat infestations.
• Secure food and water to keep them from being contaminated.
