On December 4, 2025 at CBE Function Hall of Father Saturnino Urios University, the 4th Nursing Research Congress brought together students, alumni, faculty, and esteemed health leaders for a full day of learning, collaboration, and research excellence. Anchored on the theme โ๐๐ง๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐ค๐ง๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ช๐ง๐จ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ค๐ช๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ฎ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐พ๐ค๐ก๐ก๐๐๐ค๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ: ๐ผ๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ฉ๐ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐ผ๐ก๐ก,โ this yearโs congress highlighted the evolving role of nurses in addressing todayโs complex global health landscape. With emerging infectious diseases, environmental challenges, and increasing community health needs, the event underscored how integrity, innovation, and collaboration must guide the future of the profession.
The day opened with an invocation, and national anthem, followed by an inspiring welcome message from ๐๐ป๐ด๐ฟ. ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ, the Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs. Her words echoed the essence of the themeโreminding everyone that meaningful health outcomes start with ethical leadership and shared responsibility. ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ, ๐ฅ๐ก, ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฐ delivered a motivating message on behalf of Dr. Sadaila K. Raki-in of DOH-CHD Caraga, highlighting the important alignment of nursing research with national health priorities and the One Health approach.
Three plenary sessions set the intellectual tone of the event:
๐น Plenary 1, delivered by ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ธ๐ผ explored how telehealth and virtual practice are reshaping nursing care, "With better technology and policy formation, we can expect better health outcomes across the Philippines." He emphasized that nurses today serve at the digital frontlines, ensuring patient safety and continuity of care even beyond hospital walls.
๐น Plenary 2, presented by ๐ ๐ฟ. ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ, focused on the alarming One Health impact of plastic pollution. He highlighted the interconnectedness of environmental harm and human health, calling for stronger collaboration among communities, institutions, and policymakers as โWhat seems to be a very important innovation now can also be the demise of the entire nation [if its benefits and risks are not carefully weighed].โ
๐น Plenary 3, shared by ๐๐ฟ. ๐๐๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ป, examined schistosomiasis through an integrated human-animal-environment lens. Her talk emphasized cross-sector partnerships as key to effective disease control and sustainable community health, โWe have to really realize that nurses and clinicians are central actors in [achieving] One Health for Allโ.
Participants also engaged in two sets of parallel sessions, featuring outstanding studies from nursing students and professionals. These sessions showcased research on dengue prevention, disaster readiness, HPV vaccination, adolescent mothers, domestic water safety, intergenerational nursing dynamics, nurse turnover, leadership development, MDR-TB treatment strategies, work-life balance, monkeypox awareness, plant-based antifungal properties, and diabetes management. Facilitated by Nursing Programโs alumni and faculty, each session fostered meaningful dialogue and highlighted the depth and diversity of nursing research happening in Butuan City.
๐๐รฑ๐๐ณ, a 3rd year nursing student from FSUU, stated that โThe 4th Nursing Research Congress is an event I have truly looked forward to, especially after attending last yearโs congress. Listening to our seniors present their studies and respond to research questions was both inspiring and insightful. Their work gave me a clearer perspective on how I might approach my own research, now that I am a 3rd-year nursing student. This event has also broadened my understanding of various health issues, not only in Butuan but within the wider Philippine context.โ From another participantโs experience โ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐ ๐. It was an honorable opportunity, not only to gain insights but also to learn what it truly means to be a researcher. As Dr. Estioko emphasized, becoming a researcher does not require exceptional intellect, rather genuine enthusiasm and willingness to learn.โ
Throughout the congress, one message stood clear: nursing is transformative when guided by integrity and strengthened by collaboration. The One Health perspectiveโrecognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental healthโserved as the backbone of discussions, reminding participants that the future of healthcare depends on shared responsibility and holistic solutions that highlights the importance of accountability and unity.
The program concluded with closing remarks from ๐ซ๐.
๐๐ ๐ฑ๐., the Dean of the Nursing Program, who emphasized the vital role of research in shaping compassionate, ethical, and sustainable nursing practice. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to speakers, presenters, facilitators, and supporters who made the event successful and possible. Special recognition also goes to ๐ด๐. ๐ด๐๐๐๐, ๐น๐ต, ๐ด๐จ๐ต, who served as the emcee and skillfully guided the dayโs activities with warmth and professionalism.
