Day 2 of the 3-Minute Pitch (3MP) Workshop (June 19, 2025) showcased the heart of the eventโ€”a live presentation of the participantsโ€™ crafted pitches, complete with a one-slide visual and a brief Q&A session. Each representative from CHRDC member institutions took the stage to present their health research as if addressing real-world policymakers and target stakeholders.

The activity not only tested the participants' grasp of the technical aspects but also reflected the depth of their learning from Day 1. From well-structured scripts to impactful delivery and confident responses during the Q&A, it was clear that participants had internalized the core principles of effective research communication. The session served as a simulation of how researchers must advocate for evidence-based solutions in settings where time is limited but impact is critical.

More than just a workshop, this experience aimed to equip researchers for future engagementsโ€”whether presenting at the upcoming CHRDC Regional Health Research Conference, joining local, national pitch competitions, or communicating their findings directly to policymakers and communities that their work seeks to serve.

CHRDC successfully launched Day 1 (June 18, 2025) of the โ€œBridging Health Research and Policy: 3-Minute Pitch Workshop,โ€ bringing together member institutions for a capacity-building event aimed at transforming impactful health research into concise, strategic pitches that can influence policy and practice. This initiative responds to the growing need for researchers to effectively communicate their work to policymakers, funders, and the broader public.

The first talk, โ€œCrafting a Winning 3MPโ€ by ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐ƒ๐ž๐›๐›๐ข๐ž ๐†๐š๐ข๐ฅ ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐ ๐š๐๐ฅ๐š๐จ, drew from her personal journey as a 3rd Place Winner at the 2024 PNHRS 3MP Competition. She emphasized that a 3MP is more than just a short presentationโ€”it is a fusion of research, advocacy, and storytelling. Participants learned the importance of selecting relevant and understandable research, writing intentional scripts, delivering with confidence, and preparing for Q&A sessions. Debbieโ€™s message was both practical and inspiring: โ€œMay the roof I built become the ground on which you confidently stand.โ€

In the second session, โ€œLessons from the Field: A Researcherโ€™s Journey to the 3MP Stage,โ€ ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐ƒ๐ข๐ง๐ง๐ž๐ฌ ๐Š๐š๐ซ๐ฅ ๐†๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ข๐š shared his candid experiences navigating the 3MP platform. He highlighted that excellence takes time and that preparation, confidence, and authenticity are key to making a strong impact in just three minutes. His reflections encouraged participants to embrace storytelling, understand the heart of their research, and enjoy the journey of growth that comes with the processโ€”reminding everyone that โ€œwhatever the outcome, the experience is a gain.โ€

The day concluded with two interactive workshops focused on breaking down the elements of a winning pitch and storyboarding research narratives. These sessions allowed participants to refine their skills in content clarity, slide design, and visual storytelling.

A strong start to a workshop that bridges science and policy through compelling communicationโ€”3 minutes at a time.
