It is fascinating how motherhood affects the whole being of a woman. 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMD) which frequently go about unnoticed and left untreated. Up to 80% of women reported experiences of β€œThe Baby Blues” symptoms as their bodies adjust after giving birth. These often come with tragic and long-term consequences to mothers and eventually, will leave negative impacts to the whole family.

This day concludes the month-long celebration of World Maternal Mental Health. This observance focuses on the increasing awareness of mothers' mental well-being during pregnancy and the time period shortly after giving birth. Today, we recognize mental health as a significant part of achieving a holistic maternity care.

Get involved and extend a helping hand! They deserve all the love and support that they can get. πŸ’πŸ€°

For the past 50 years, Earth Day has been celebrated by billions of people around the globe, annually every April 22, to join together in promoting awareness for the health of our environment.
Why should we continue to celebrate this holiday? Some people may view it as just another holiday, but with serious concerns about our changing environment being studied and addressed today by prominent scientists, politicians, and young climate change activists alike, we should start adapting to more environmentally friendly ways of living β€” every day, not just on April 22 every year.
In line with the call of the recent movement, the BDC PHISMETS is in unity of saving our planet by taking an action in using its platform to spread awareness.

Here are things you can do to save the earth:

1. Reduce your carbon footprint
Get creative with new ways to switch up your commute, or a part of your daily routine. Instead of driving to your destination, carpool with friends, take public transportation, walk, skate, scooter, or ride a bike. Depending on the weather, you may enjoy this new form of travel even more than sitting in traffic.

2. Reuse, and recycle your wardrobe
Though it may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, your closet and your shopping habits can actually have a negative effect on our environment. By buying thrifted or gently used outfits online, new resources aren’t used to make more clothes that will eventually end up being repurposed, reused, or in a landfill. Some studies have shown that online shopping is better for the environment because it takes about 30% less resources to sell items online. Fire up your Amazon Prime app!

3. Switch up your diet
Most people may know that food production accounts for one-quarter to one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, and the majority of the blame falls on the meat industry. The BBC recently reported that if the entire world became vegetarian and ate no red meat by 2050, food-related emissions would decrease by about 60%. If the world went vegan instead, emissions would decrease around 70%. It may be time to try out the new β€˜Beyond Meat’ burgers.

There are many things that you can do to support our planet, and multiple ways to get connected locally to your community on Earth Day.

THE EARTH NEEDS YOUR HELP.

Arat shat punooo NO MORE! 🍺❌

Alcoholism is a growing concern in the culture and social life of Filipinos. According to Food Nutrition and Research Institute’s Clinical and Health Survey, more than half of Filipinos aged 20 to 59 engage in harmful use of alcohol in the form of binge drinking or excessively drinking in one sitting. A study shows that out of every 100,000 Filipinos with alcohol addiction, 16,418 people would die due to hypertensive diseases, 8,526 would die from tuberculosis, 4,431 would die due to liver cirrhosis, and 2,714 would die from mouth, colorectal, and breast cancer. Indeed, the risk of excessive alcohol use is high and could result in certain death.

This month of April marks National Alcohol Awareness Month. A reminder to every Katusoks that alcohol abuse has a significant impact on our lives. We should know how to weigh the consequences of alcohol consumption and prioritize our health over leisure.

Master to control your impulses. Learn to say no. And always practice low-risk drinking.

KATUSOK, HAPPY TWOSDAY!
It's a momentous day today: 2-22-22.

And today, also marks the World Encephalitis Day, a global awareness day in which people who have been touched by encephalitis (brain inflammation) join together to raise awareness about the disease.

DID YOU KNOW?
- That a Herpes simplex virus is one of the most common cause of viral encephalitis, the "inflammation of the brain". Permanent brain injury is the most significant potential risk. Children under the age of one year and people over the age of 55 are at a higher risk of developing life-threatening complications.

The Encephalitis Society established this day in 2014, and it has been held annually since then. Over the years, it has reached over 236 million people via media features, events, and social media.

Apart from all of this mga Katusok, there will be hope and will play a key role in the mission to raise global encephalitis awareness. We our most valuable asset. We have the ability to assist us in effecting change and saving lives.

As we welcome another year, the BDC PHISMETS would like to enlighten you with some health information regarding Leprosy.

The theme for World Leprosy Day 2022 is 'United for Dignity.' It focuses on the importance of honoring individuals who have experienced leprosy by:
(1) Sharing their empowering stories;
(2) Advocating for mental wellbeing and;
(3) The right to a dignified life free from disease-related stigma.

World Leprosy Day (WLD) is celebrated on the last Sunday of January. This international day is an opportunity to celebrate people who have experienced leprosy or Hansen’s disease, raise awareness of the disease, and call for an end to leprosy-related stigma and discrimination.

The World Leprosy Day was established in 1954 by French philanthropist Raoul Follereau and was renamed Hansen's disease after Norwegian scientist Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who discovered the slow-growing bacterium now known as Mycobacterium leprae as the cause of the illness in 1873. Due to this, these bacteria grow slowly and might take up to 20 years to show indications of infection, In conclusion, this condition is difficult to detect.

Let us help depict a positive image of leprosy and increase awareness about it and promote a positive image of the disease which helps focus on the abilities of the affected individuals rather than disability.

Let us all be educated and increase awareness in order to be safe, mga katusok!

Here is some information that will guide you further in your understanding of Leprosy also known as Hansen’s disease!
