Philippine Red Cross marks 79 years of unwavering humanitarian service
Today (April 15), the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) commemorates its 79th anniversary, celebrating nearly eight decades of steadfast commitment to humanitarian service and nation-building. Across its 102 chapters nationwide, this milestone serves as a moment to reaffirm its mission, strengthen its unified direction, and honor the enduring spirit of volunteerism that has defined the organization since its founding.
For nearly eight decades, the PRC has existed in the background of the nationโs most defining moments. It is there when floodwaters rise in the middle of the night, when earthquakes reduce homes to rubble, when blood is urgently needed in hospital corridors, and when communities begin the long, uncertain process of rebuilding.
What makes the PRC distinct is not just the scale of its operations, but the culture it has quietly built: one rooted in preparedness, discipline, and above all, humanity. Its volunteersโnow numbering in two millionโare not simply responders; they are neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming lifelines, ordinary Filipinos choosing, again and again, to be part of something larger than themselves.
