It has come to our attention that a disgruntled patient posted a malicious accusation against Pira Hospital. It is very unfortunate that the issue was between the patient and her HMO and not with Pira Hospital. We do understand the patient's frustration about the situation but we do not understand her audacity to call the hospital a SCAMMER on her social media account. It was not the hospital's fault that she never bothered to check her HMO policy before making such accusation. After realizing that she made a mistake, she cloyingly try to be nice with the cashier, whom she initially tried to make the recipient of her ire. There was never an effort to apologize or rectify her mistake. What she did is considered a cyber crime, under Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act), where a malicious, public imputation harms someone's reputation, carrying a harsher penalty (one degree higher imprisonment) than traditional libel, often involving fines and jail time. Key elements are a false, damaging statement, public visibility (to others besides author/victim), clear identification of the person, and malice.

We were able to secure a screenshot of her damaging post against Pira Hospital. Armed with this evidence, we will pursue all legal avenues to ensure that she would be brought to justice.

A friendly reminder to everyone, THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK. Once you tarnish one's reputation, the damage would be irreversible.
