8 July 2025, Cagayan de Oro City โ The Regional Nutrition Committee, Regional Nutrition Cluster, RNC-Technical Working Group and ECCD-First 1000 Days Technical Working Group convened for its first joint meeting for the year on 7 July 2025. Nutrition Program Coordinator Reginaldo T. Guillen, Officer-in-Charge of the National Nutrition Council Region X, presided over the meeting on behalf of Director Sulpicio Henry M. Legaspi of the Department of Health Center for Health Development-Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM) and Chairperson of the RNC X. Held at Chali Resort and Conference Center, Cagayan de Oro City, the meeting gathered 28 members from the various committees.
The inter-agency committee approved three resolutions, wherein the first policy enjoins all Provinces, Cities and Municipalities to adopt the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program of the NNC. The said program provides food commodities to pregnant and lactating women and children aged 6-23 months. Another policy approved was the support for the upcoming partnership between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and NNC Region X for the provision of free calibration services for the equipment being used by local government units (LGU) in the conduct of Operation Timbang Plus.
Mr. Rommel Teofilo F. Aguilar, Nutritionist-Dietitian V of the Bangsamoro Umpungan sa Nutrisyon (BangUn) Program-National Project Management Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development presented the proposed expansion of the said program to Katribu sa Nutrisyon Program in CY 2026. The program aims to improve the nutritional status of children and pregnant and lactating women through Direct Nutrition Services, Social-Behavioral Change Initiatives and Development and Sustainable Livelihood and Community Development. In response, the RNC X committed to support the expansion through issuance of a resolution.
The body proceeded to tacking the updating of the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2023-2028, the latest developments of the series of monitoring and evaluation activities, and in time for the annual campaign, the 2025 Nutrition Month key messages and lineup of activities were shared to the members. Likewise, the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) accomplishments and ways forward were discussed.
Member agencies DOH, Department of Education (DepEd) and DSWD through their representatives apprised the RNC X on various program developments. The DOH Health Assessment for Grade 1 learners in select public schools was introduced, where the agency, in partnership with DepEd, DOH-retained hospitals, and LGUs commit to safeguarding the health and holistic well-being of students. Additionally, the School-Based Feeding Program Guidelines for 2025-2026 was presented the public schools. Representatives from DSWD Field Office X further provided the latest initiatives for the Supplementary Feeding Program, Sustainable Livelihood Program, and the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty.
As part of continuous strengthening of the nutrition substructures, the RTWG will pursue the identification of its Chairperson to provide a clear leadership and personality of the RTWG, which is crucial in steering the nutrition initiatives at the regional level.
