TABLON, Cagayan de Oro City โ€“ The City Health Office-Nutrition Office and Barangay Tablon, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Metro CDO and the NMMC Human Milk Bank and Lactation Unit, successfully hosted a "First 1000 Days Forum and Milk Letting Activity" at the Barangay Tablon Open Court. Held as part of the city's celebration of National Breastfeeding Month, the event focused on promoting breastfeeding and proper nutrition during a child's most crucial developmental period.

The forum's theme, โ€œPrioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System,โ€ resonated with the attendees, who were primarily breastfeeding mothers. The program highlighted the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and the importance of continued breastfeeding with complementary feeding until the age of two and beyond.

The event featured messages from key figures, including Barangay Administrator Roel J. Tan, who spoke on behalf of Barangay Chairman Romeo R. Bacarro, an inspirational message from City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Caroline A. Cabunoc and gratitude message from Kagawad on Health Bobby Jacutin. Representatives from the partnering organizations also delivered special messages, underscoring the vital role of community support in breastfeeding advocacy.

A central part of the program was an informative lecture on the "First 1000 Days" delivered by CNPC Kenneth Janne M. Mandaya. The discussion emphasized the critical window from a mother's pregnancy to her child's second birthday, noting that proper nutrition during this period can have a lasting impact on a child's physical and cognitive development.

In a crucial addition to the program, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Mendoza from the NMMC Human Milk Bank and Lactation Unit discussed common mental health issues that can arise after birth and during breastfeeding. Dr. Mendoza provided valuable insights and guidance on how to identify and manage conditions such as postpartum blues and depression, ensuring that mothers receive holistic support for their well-being. This segment underscored that maternal health, both physical and mental, is integral to a child's healthy development.

The highlight of the activity was the "Milk Letting" initiative, which encouraged mothers with an abundant milk supply to become donors. A total of 1,850 ml of breast milk was collected and directly turned over to the NMMC Human Milk Bank. This vital resource provides safe and nutritious donor milk to hospitalized infants who are unable to receive milk from their own mothers.

The success of the event was a result of a strong collaborative spirit among the organizers. The Barangay Tablon Council, led by Punong Barangay Romeo R. Bacarro, extended its gratitude to the Barangay Health Center personnels headed by Medical Officer Dr. Diana Talian and Public Health Nurse Joreylene C. Virtudazo. The dedicated Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) were also recognized for their invaluable assistance. CNPC Aprel Fe C. Susaya-Suico hosted the event.

This joint effort serves as a powerful testament to the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in addressing critical health concerns and fostering a healthier, more nourished community. [Text by: ๐‚๐๐๐‚๐€๐…๐‚๐ก๐’๐’]
