Meeting | July 24, 2025

Our Oral Health Program and Dental Clinic Team came together for a meeting. This served as an opportunity to review ongoing practices, address current challenges, and align our efforts for the second half of the year.

The Provincial Health Office dental services regularly have preventive maintenance to ensure that dental equipment remains operational and prevents the unexpected breakdowns that lead to repairs.

Although our task is mainly, to deliver preventive oral health services to the province. We make sure that our equipment operates efficiently to enhance patient care and safety.

𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

— The Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental Oral Health Program participated in the Mid-Year Consultative Meeting with Public Health Dentist in Northern Mindanao organized by the Department of Health Center for Health Development – Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM) , July 17-18, 2025, at Pearlmont Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental.

The event gathered public dentist from RHU, CHO's, LGU-run hospitals and DOH-retained hospitals, across the region to strengthen coordination in the delivery of oral health services.

Anchored in the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act and the DOH’s 8-Point Action Agenda, the meeting served as a platform for sharing insights, resources, and best practices aimed to enhance planning, upgrading, and operations of the oral health program.

By fostering collaboration among other public health dentist, we reaffirmed our commitment to building a more responsive and equitable oral care in Misamis Oriental— ensuring that quality oral healthcare becomes accessible to every Misamisnon, regardless of location or socioeconomic status.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 15-16
— In a significant move to enhance oral healthcare delivery, the Department of Health Center for Health Development – Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM) Oral Health Program, together with other provincial OHP Coordinators conducted an Orientation on Barangay Health Coordinators on the Oral Health Program Promotion & Masterlisting held at Pearlmont Hotel. This activity marks a pivotal moment in the province’s health sector reform as we uplift oral health.

By Empowering BHWs with oral health knowledge can also lead to healthier communities as they become advocates for oral hygiene practices. When BHWs know the relationship of oral health to general health, they can recognize any observable oral disease and lead them to recommend for a dental visit. The high knowledge of BHWs should be reinforced with training so that they will acquire the necessary competency, skills, and approaches needed to deliver basic oral healthcare messages and referral services.

Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental under OIC Dr. Teodoro B. Yu Jr., held a re-orientation for dentists regarding the Field Health Service Information System (FHSIS) updates and correct use of forms for dental services including individual treatment records (ITR), target client lists and indicators. The said activity was joined by the focal person of the FHSIS Misamis Oriental, Ms. Kimberly Shane Wahing, who gave her expertise on the said topic.

By participating in this re-orientation, public and hospital dentists in the province can ensure they are equipped to contribute to a more effective and data-driven approach to dental health service delivery.

The strategic planning process doesn't end when the meeting adjourns – it is just the beginning. Our strategic planning held last April 7 allowed us to craft a clear vision and goals of our team. Thus, "MISOR DENTAL by 2030".

Statements of our vision and mission are important so that everyone involved in our team, including outside stakeholders, understand what the team will accomplish and how it will be accomplished. In essence this means "keeping everyone on the same page" so they are all "pulling in the same direction".

The Local Government of Lugait hosted a meaningful event for expectant mothers today, June 3, 2025, with the theme “Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies: Empowering Every Step of Motherhood." held at the Municipal Gymnasium. The activity was spearheaded by Dr. Jarlim Lim Jarales, Municipal Health Officer, and the active support of the Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental under the leadership of Dr. Teodoro B. Yu Jr., Provincial Health Officer.

The Buntis Congress provided various free health services, including Dental Check-ups, Oral Prohylaxis, Oral Health Education and free Oral Essential Package.

The event featured lecture by Ms. Anna Virtudazo of PHO, who discussed essential topics such as safe motherhood, women’s health, and the importance of antenatal and postnatal checkups. These talks aimed to raise awareness on maternal and child health, emphasizing preventive care throughout pregnancy.

To make learning fun and engaging, the RHU set up an educational booth tailored for pregnant mothers.

To determine its direction, objectives, and focused-vision, the Dental team of Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental conducted a Strategic Planning Workshop participated by dentist and dental aides of the province today April 7, 2025 at the PHO Conference Room.

The said workshop provided the team with ideas and plans to successfully attain its targets and also craft their VISION AND MISSION for the Oral Health Program.

To aid them in their workshop proper, Dr. Vance Helsh G. Laurie and Dr. Verna Yap detailed a Strategic Planning Framework to serve as a guide for the participants.

In addition, Dr. Teodoro Jr Yu, OIC PHO, informed the team of the office updates involving the said program and personally thank each one for the services they have accomplished for the people of Misamis Oriental.

𝙊𝙍𝘼𝙇 𝙃𝙀𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙃 𝘾𝘼𝙍𝘼𝙑𝘼𝙉 || Manticao

The Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental under the guidance of our visionary leader Gov. Peter "Sr. Pedro" Unabia held an event called the Oral Health Caravan, a dental mission that promoted dental health and hygiene. The event took place in Punta Silum Imtegrated School Covered Court, Manticao, Misamis Oriental.

The caravan aims to promote awareness about the importance of oral hygiene, encourage preventive dental care, and and introduce our oral health care goall: ensuring individuals have twenty healthy teeth by the age of 70.

We are trying to implement more education and consultation so that they will take care of their teeth by themselves.

The vision of our dear Governor, 𝐇𝐎𝐍. 𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑 "𝐒𝐫. 𝐏𝐄𝐃𝐑𝐎" 𝐌. 𝐔𝐍𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐀, into achieving “𝐏amilyang 𝐌isamisnon 𝐔nahon” through his strategy 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲, to propel the Province of Misamis Oriental to better oral health, Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental thru our active Provincial Health Officer Dr. Teodoro B. Yu Jr., MD, teamed up with the Local Government of Binuangan under Hon. Mayor Dann Isaiah D Lusterio and Vice Mayor Michelle C. Abao for another Oral Health Caravan to bring good oral health care and practices to the forefront.

During the course of the activity, they showed their ardent appreciation to the dental team for bringing in their locality the much-needed dental health services. The joint venture provided access to the dental needs of the residents, offering oral examination, dental cleaning, oral health education and tooth extraction.

Over a hundred benefitted in the Oral Health Caravan, proving the enthusiasm of the facilitators in promoting the importance of oral health and preventive care across the province.

Meanwhile, essential and prescribed medicines were distributed for free, to relieve the financial burden and meet the medication needs of the patients.

In line with the celebration of National Dental Health Month 2025, the The Provincial Early Childhood Care and Development Office headed by the Officer-in-Charge Ms. Jaira Lou J. Silos, in partnership with the Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental conducted a National Dental Health Month Culmination at brgy. Valdeconcha and brgy. Nabataan; Binuangan, Misamis Oriental through Oral Health Education and distribution of oral hygiene kits. During the program, Dr. Verna Lissa Yap, PHO dentist, conducted Oral Health awareness emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene for children.

This activity anchors with the PAGLAUM Development Agenda of Gov. Peter M. Unabia under letter U - Unified efforts for Heath and Social Services Delivery which also ensures the dental health and overall wellness of the Misamisnons.
