NEW COVID VARIANT?
Here's what you need to know:
The newly identified Nimbus variant of COVID-19, a member of the Omicron lineage, is currently spreading with symptoms that closely resemble those of previous strains.
Common signs include cough, congestion, headaches, fatigue, sore throat, fever (in some cases), and gastrointestinal issues like nausea or diarrhea.
The World Health Organization reports that existing vaccines still provide solid protection against this variant, though individual experiences may differ depending on factors like vaccination status and general health.
One standout symptom that has captured attention online is what people are calling “razor blade throat”—a particularly painful sore throat that appears more intense than in previous waves.
However, it’s important to note that symptoms can overlap with other seasonal illnesses such as hay fever or the common cold.
The only reliable way to confirm a COVID-19 infection is through testing.
If you're feeling unwell, isolate if possible, wear a mask around others, and manage symptoms with over-the-counter medications like paracetamol. For severe signs like shortness of breath, professional medical advice is strongly recommended.
