Thank you to everyone who participated in making this celebration not just a moment of remembrance, but also a moment of meaningful impact. As we reflect with pride and look forward with purpose, we remain committed to delivering quality healthcare to the community we serve.

We are deeply thankful to Dr. Jing Bautista, one of our very own CUMC graduates and former Chief Resident, for generously giving back to the department by launching our 3-part Research Workshop series. His passion for academic growth and excellence continues to inspire the next generation of physician-scholars.

โ€œResearch writing and case report writing are vital cornerstones of medical progress. Through research, we uncover trends that guide clinical decision-making across populations; through case reports, we bring attention to rare or instructive cases that deepen our understanding and challenge existing norms. Together, they cultivate a culture of curiosity, critical thinking, and continuous learningโ€”values at the heart of every great clinician.

Thank you, Dr. Bautistaโ€”and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next session!

Kicking off the Scientific Exchanges in Endocrinology and Diabetes (SEED) series by the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism!

This program brings valuable educational opportunities and workshops to healthcare professionals, especially those in internal medicine and primary care.

Weโ€™re grateful to Dr. Tricia Marie Obrero and Dr. Sue Anne Lim for facilitating the lecture series at CUMC Internal Medicine Department.

Now happening: Introduction to Diabetes Mellitus โ€” the first step in our ongoing journey toward deeper understanding and better care.

โ€œYou canโ€™t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first. Never overestimate the strength of the torchbearerโ€™s arm, for even the strongest arms grow weary.โ€

In the whirlwind of rounds, endorsements, and patient care, residency life often pushes us to our limits. Thatโ€™s why todayโ€™s CUMC Department of Internal Medicine Senior Conference was a much-needed pause โ€” a moment to reflect, reset, and recharge.

With our very own Dr. Donna Guarino as presenter, and guest speaker Dr Christi Annah V. Hipona, psychiatrist specializing in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, we explored the timely and resonant theme:

โ€œBurnout and Mindfulness: Finding Balance in a Demanding World.โ€

Because even the torchbearers โ€” those who light the way for others โ€” deserve moments of rest.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in this powerful conversation on sustaining strength, finding balance, and prioritizing mental wellness in the practice of medicine.

โ€œMedical residency is tough, but a positive work environment makes all the difference. When we support, respect, and uplift each other, we donโ€™t just surviveโ€”we thrive. Together, we create a culture of learning, resilience, and teamwork that helps us grow as both doctors and individuals.โ€

Today, in our mortality conference titled โ€˜When Opportunistic Infections Overwhelm,โ€™ we confront a case where the immune system stood defenseless, allowing infections to ravage unchecked.

โ€โ€˜Aging is not lost youth but a new stage of opportunity and strength.โ€™

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Nathalie Grace Ayupan-Peguit for sharing her expertise on Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and its vital role in internal medicine. As internists, we often focus on disease management, but todayโ€™s lecture emphasized the importance of seeing the bigger pictureโ€”assessing not just the illness but the overall well-being of our elderly patients.

Through the use of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment tools, we are empowered to evaluate functional status, cognitive abilities, social support, and overall health risks more effectively. These tools serve as our guide in making well-informed, patient-centered decisions, ensuring that we provide not just treatment, but quality of life for our geriatric patients.

Thank you, Dr. Nathalie Ayupan-Peguit, for reminding us that true patient care goes beyond prescriptionsโ€”itโ€™s about understanding, compassion, and holistic management. Your insights will surely help us become better physicians for our aging population!โ€

A productive and insightful session at the CUMC IM Seniorโ€™s Conference entitled:

โ€œDoctors and Taxes : What we need to knowโ€

Presentor : Dr. Ma. Michaella Isabel Luayon, MD (CUMC IM Senior Resident)

Resource Speaker : Atty. Antonio Acaylar Jr., CPA
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
Understanding taxation is just as important as mastering our medical skills! As doctors, we dedicate our lives to patient care, but financial literacyโ€”including taxesโ€”is crucial to securing our future. Knowing our responsibilities and rights allows us to plan ahead, avoid unnecessary penalties, and maximize our hard-earned income. After all, a well-managed financial life lets us focus on what we do bestโ€”saving lives!
