Eyes Here 👀🤩

Air pollutants are substances that are harmful to the environment and human health. They can come from various sources, such as vehicles, factories, fires, and natural processes. Exposure to high levels of air pollutants can cause respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and premature death. ☠️

To date, this infographic lists five (5) common air pollutants in Region X and where they usually come from (stationary, mobile sources, and others in the area):

1. Particulate matters can come from dust, smoke, soot, pollen, and other sources.
2. Carbon monoxide is produced by burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas.
3. Nitrogen oxide is formed by high-temperature combustion, such as in engines, power plants, and industrial processes.
4. Sulfur Oxide is produced by burning coal and oil that contain sulfur.
5. Volatile organic compounds can come from both natural and human-made sources, such as plants, animals, fuels, paints, cosmetics, and cleaners.

Air pollution is like a bad relationship💔. It’s toxic, it’s suffocating, and it’s hard to get rid of. 😮‍💨

Polluted Air? 🤔 Let's find out! 👇

According to the latest data, this chart signifies the percentages of all air pollutants in Region X. The pollutants monitored include particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and volatile organic compounds. Based on the record, 44.96% of air pollutants are coming from mobile sources, like different vehicles used as transportation, such as motorcycles, buses, and cars. 35.52% are coming from stationary sources such as factories, industrial facilities, and oil refineries. The remaining 19.52% is contributed by others in the area, such as open burning of garbage waste, construction, and agricultural activities. ⚠️

Hence, the silent killer that robs individuals of their life and health is air pollution. Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution.

Let's breathe healthy and be healthier.

Let’s join Senator Loren Legarda in spreading awareness about the Clean Air Act of 1999. Let's breathe cleaner, live greener! 🌿

🍃

More than twenty years ago, I authored and co-sponsored the passage of Republic Act No. 8749, or the Philippine Clean Air Act.

During my first term as a Senator, I aimed to set the country’s environmental goals, and hopefully mitigate some of the damage we have caused to nature. Twenty years later, we are still fighting to protect the environment for the benefit of future generations, through the implementation of my Clean Air Act, accompanied by other landmark pieces of legislation meant to protect our environment.

So, in celebration of the International Day of Clean Air, I would like to reiterate the importance of working together to battle air pollution for our health and well-being, as well as that of our families. Air pollution is one of the major causes of multiple health problems, such as irritation, headaches, asthma, breathing difficulties, cancer, heart and lung disease, and attacks on our nervous system. Without taking action, the number of premature deaths resulting from air pollution is estimated to increase by 50% by 2050.

By working together, we can achieve cleaner air and fight air pollution. Believe it or not, clean air has economic benefits! It has a positive impact on sustainable development, especially in urban areas in developing countries.

Are you awAIR of how clean the air we breathe in is?

Most people tend to downplay the importance of the quality of gases we breathe in daily. Oxygen, being one of THE most essential molecule being used by our bodies, is at times not readily available for the average person.

Thus, as level 1 medical students of XU-JPRSM, we are avid advocates of raising awareness on RA 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act.

Sige, ginhawa sa, pero breathe the good air with us and together, let us advocate and spread awareness of the strong policies that keeps the air clean.

Are you awAIR of the cleanliness of the air that we breathe in?

Polluted air is a silent killer!

The air we breathe, tainted by harmful pollutants, silently seeps into our bodies, causing health issues even with the simplest and most passive act of breathing.

Filipinos shouldn’t downplay the importance of the quality of gases that we breathe in, because according to RA 8749, it is OUR RIGHT to breathe the clean air!

Thus, as level 1 medical students of XU-JPRSM, we are avid advocates of raising awareness on RA 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 towards Respiratory health.

Sige, ginhawa sa! Breathe the good air with us and together, let us advocate and spread awareness to keep our air clean.
