The energy was electric as we kicked off our month-long celebration under the powerful theme: “FOOD & NUTRITION SECURITY: Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!" Dr. Michael June C. Perez, our Chief of Hospital, ignited the mission with an inspiring ribbon-cutting ceremony and opening call-to-action while City Health Office RND Ms. April Monsanto delivered a stirring keynote speech, challenging us all to prioritize nutrition security now.

A powerful moment unfolded when Ms. Rose Antojado, JRBGH RND led a unified Oath of Commitment – our solemn promise to champion every citizen’s right to nutritious food! Dr. Keziah Huevos, Head of National Nutrition Month Celebration 2025, then unveiled exciting upcoming activities, while Dr. Sheila Mae Taal, Breastfeeding and Nutrition Chairperson, closed with a resonant reminder: “Nutrition isn’t a privilege – it’s a fundamental RIGHT."

This is OUR collective effort! Join us this July:

Last week (June 16-20, 2025), our HEPO and DRMM-H manager immersed themselves in a crucial Training of Trainers (ToT) on Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) at the beautiful Villa Paraiso in Camiguin.

This intensive program equipped our team with advanced skills and methodologies to effectively:

✅ Communicate risks clearly and accurately during emergencies.
✅ Engage communities meaningfully to build trust and foster collaboration.
✅ Develop targeted strategies to ensure vital information reaches everyone, especially vulnerable groups.
✅ Train other responders to amplify these critical skills across our networks.

We delved deep into best practices, participatory approaches, and tools to empower communities to be active partners in their own safety and resilience. The stunning backdrop of Camiguin provided the perfect environment for focused learning and team building.

A huge thank you to the organizers and expert facilitators for this invaluable opportunity! We also appreciate the hospitality of Villa Paraiso, Camiguin.

What's Next?

Our newly certified trainers are energized and ready! We're now better prepared to lead RCCE initiatives, train partners and community leaders, and ensure the HEPO is at the forefront of building informed, engaged, and resilient communities before, during, and after any crisis.

Stay tuned for how we'll put these vital skills into action!

🚨 LEPTOSPIROSIS ALERT: STAY SAFE IN CDO FLOODS! (Share this to protect our community!)

Recent heavy rains and floods have put us at risk for LEPTOSPIROSIS – a dangerous bacterial infection spread by floodwater contaminated with animal urine (especially rats). Don’t ignore this threat!

🦠 HOW IT SPREADS:
- Wading/barefoot walking in floodwater
- Cuts or wounds exposed to contaminated water
- Contact with wet soil/mud

✅ PREVENT LIKE A PRO:
1️⃣ AVOID FLOODWATER IF POSSIBLE. If unavoidable:
- Wear waterproof boots (or plastic bags + rubber bands).
- Cover wounds with waterproof bandages.
2️⃣ WASH IMMEDIATELY!Scrub exposed skin with soap + clean water.
3️⃣ DISINFECT: Clean flooded homes with bleach solution (1:10 ratio).
4️⃣ FIGHT RATS: Store food in sealed containers, clean trash areas.

⚠️ WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS (3-10 days after exposure):
- High fever + chills
- Severe headache/muscle pain (esp. calves/thighs)
- Red eyes 👁️
- Vomiting/diarrhea
- DANGER SIGNS: Yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), dark urine, difficulty breathing

🆘 ACT FAST!
➡️ SEEK A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you had flood exposure + symptoms! Early antibiotics save lives.
➡️ DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE!

💙 SHARE THIS! Protect your family, neighbors, and workers. Stay dry, stay vigilant, and let’s keep Oro safe!

Every beat counts.⏱️❤️

JR Borja General Hospital staff stepped up this week, learning the critical skill of Hands-Only CPR!This vital training ensures our team is prepared to provide immediate, life-sustaining care during cardiac emergencies.

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, anytime. Hands-Only CPR is a straightforward technique that doubles or even triples a person's chance of survival by keeping blood flowing to the brain and heart until advanced medical help arrives.

Our staff practiced:
* Rapid recognition of cardiac arrest.
* Effective, uninterrupted chest compressions ("Push Hard and Fast in the Center of the Chest!").

Investing in our staff's skills is investing in the health of our entire community. We're committed to ensuring JR Borja General Hospital is a place where everyone is better equipped to respond in an emergency.
