To All:

Good Day.

It is flu season ( June to November) , Increasing cases of Influenza- like illness among students and staff are observed at this time.

Influenza- like illness is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses, rhinoviruses, enterovirus.

Symptoms may include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, fatigue, headache, chills and at times vomiting and diarrhea.

Treatment includes antiviral medications on appropriate time, symptomatic and supportive, fluids, adequate rest and sleep.

Currently, there is no public health declaration of outbreak, however, increased cases are noticeable at this time, thus the following are reminders on basic preventive health measures and precautions to help minimize further transmission and to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in addition to the general precautions:

1.) Hygiene Measures- frequent hand washing, cover cough/ sneeze, avoid touching nose/ mouth, maintain adequate ventilation and minimize overcrowding, maintain personal and environmental hygiene etc.

2.) Sick Leave of Absence -
Should remain at home / isolated until minimum of 24 - 48 hrs after fever has resolved
without medication.

3.) Maintain School Measures- wearing of face mask, regular disinfection of classrooms, restrooms, common areas, garbage bins, installation of hand sanitizers and encourage frequent hand washing, limit large indoor gatherings, have the teacher in charge / adviser monitor student absence and refer accordingly, and other related applicable measures.

4.) Medical Consultation- if condition worsens beyond number of days or severe signs e.g. breathing difficulty, chest pain, persistent vomiting and / or loose watery stools.

5.) Vaccination, proper high nutritious value diet, increase water intake and have adequate rest and sleep.

Diseases could be anywhere from school to any places we've been, to minimize and control, prevention of disease transmission and occurrences, to address and combat, is a shared responsibility. While the school health services provides guidance and coordination, success ultimately depends on the cooperation and active participation of all in the school ( students, staff, parents and learner's guardians ) and the community.

Thank you for keeping our school community safe and healthy.

Dear All,

Pax et bonum.

Preventing the spread of communicable diseases at home and school is essential to maintain the health and well-being of individuals and the community. Here are some general and standard preventive measures for both settings:

**At Home**:

1. **Hand Hygiene**:
- Frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is crucial.
- Use hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol when soap and water are not available.
- Encourage all family members to wash hands when they return home.

2. **Respiratory Hygiene**:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing.
- Dispose of used tissues in a lined trash can and wash hands immediately.
- Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.

3. **Regular Cleaning and Disinfection**:
- Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces (doorknobs, light switches, countertops) daily.
- Use EPA-approved disinfectants or a solution of 1:100 bleach and water for disinfection.

4. **Isolation and Quarantine**:
- If someone in the household is sick, isolate them in a separate room and use a separate bathroom if possible.
- If someone has been exposed to a communicable disease, follow quarantine guidelines as recommended by health authorities.

5. **Ventilation**:
- Open windows and ensure proper ventilation to reduce the concentration of airborne pathogens.
- Use air purifiers if available.

6. **Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)**:
- Encourage the use of masks, especially when physical distancing is not possible or when someone is symptomatic.
- Provide masks for family members, especially when going out in public.

7. **Physical Distancing**:
- Maintain physical distance from individuals who do not reside in your household, especially in crowded areas.
- Avoid close contact with sick family members.

8. **Regular Health Monitoring**:
- Keep a close eye on the health of family members.
- Monitor for symptoms and seek medical advice if anyone develops symptoms of illness.

**At School**:

1. **Hand Hygiene**:
- Promote handwashing with soap and water at regular intervals during the school day.
- Provide hand sanitizers in common areas and classrooms.

2. **Respiratory Hygiene**:
- Teach students to cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Encourage the use of tissues and proper disposal.

3. **Masks**:
- Require students and staff to wear masks, especially when physical distancing is challenging.
- Provide masks for those who may not have access.

4. **Physical Distancing**:
- Reconfigure classrooms and common areas to ensure physical distancing.
- Stagger schedules and dismissals to reduce overcrowding.

5. **Regular Cleaning and Disinfection**:
- Enhance cleaning and disinfection protocols for high-touch surfaces.
- Use EPA-approved disinfectants.

6. **Ventilation**:
- Ensure proper ventilation by opening windows and using air purifiers.
- Follow guidelines for improving indoor air quality.

7. **Health Screening**:
- Conduct daily health screenings for students and staff, including temperature checks and symptom monitoring.
- Send symptomatic individuals home and follow public health guidelines.

8. **Isolation and Quarantine**:
- Develop protocols for isolating symptomatic individuals and quarantining close contacts.
- Communicate these protocols clearly to students, staff, and parents.

9. **Education and Communication**:
- Educate students, staff, and parents about the importance of preventive measures.
- Provide regular updates and clear communication about th school's general precautionary and preventive measures for covid and other communicable diseases.

Both at home and school, collaboration with local health authorities and adherence to their guidance and recommendations are essential for effective disease prevention and control.

Consider vaccination as an added protection to prevent disease occurences.

For our guidance and reference.
