In line with the instruction of President Ferdinand โBongbongโ R. Marcos, Jr. to run after those who compromise road safety, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has started the investigation against 160 medical clinics across the country over reports of anomalous issuance of medical certificates.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said a medical certificate is a major requirement to get a driverโs license and the reports that the agency received was that the erring LTO-accredited medical clinics are engaged in non-appearance issuance of medical certificates.
Asec Mendoza said Secretary Dizon immediately ordered the LTO to prepare all the necessary administrative and criminal charges against those involved, including the physicians who are signatories to the non-appearance medical certificates.
Secretary Dizon earlier vowed to go all-out to ensure road safety, including running after erring motorists and improving road infrastructures.
For Asec Mendoza, the modus of the medical clinics clearly compromised road safety since there is no actual check-up for applicants of driverโs license.
โI have already ordered the respective regional directors to retrieve all the medical certificates issued by these medical clinics and to inform those who were issued with driverโs license through questionable medical certificates to explain,โ said Asec Mendoza.
โIf evidence warrants, we will revoke the accreditation of these medical clinics and impose a lifetime ban against them for any transaction with the LTO in the future,โ he added.
Asec Mendoza said all the 160 medical clinics nationwide will start receiving show cause orders this week. #
