2 Eyes in 2 Days 😰

This week at St. Paul Animal Health Clinic, we handled two urgent cases of exophthalmos (eye bulging) in dogs after dog fights. Unfortunately, the trauma was so severe that the eyes could no longer be saved.

💡 Why Enucleation?
When the eye is badly damaged, swollen, or protruding due to severe trauma, infection, or rupture, enucleation (surgical removal of the eye) is often the most humane treatment.

This procedure:
• Prevents further pain and complications
• Reduces the risk of infection spreading
• Allows pets to recover and live comfortable, happy lives even with one eye (or none)

Both our patients are now on the road to healing—no longer in pain, and soon to be back to their playful selves. 🐾❤️

👉 Remember: in emergencies like dog fights, immediate veterinary attention is crucial to prevent life-threatening complications.

This is Troy’s transfusion #2. He came to us with severe anemia (only 6% PCV) acute kidney failure and liver failure. Because his kidneys are already working so hard, we opted for carefully paced blood transfusions to avoid overloading them.

After receiving his second transfusion, we’re happy to share that he’s doing better and showing encouraging signs of recovery. ❤️

Kudos to his loving owners for giving him a real chance to live, even when his condition was very critical upon arrival. 🙏 Your love and dedication truly make all the difference.

A Second Chance at Life for an Old Dog

We recently treated a 13-year-old geriatric patient with a complicated medical history. Her case involved a long-standing pyometra, a severe bacterial infection of the uterus and cervix, along with a suspected mammary tumor. Pre-surgical diagnostics confirmed she was a candidate for the intensive procedure.

Our surgical team, a collaboration between Dr. Favila of St. Paul Animal Health Clinic and Dr. Fetizanan of Mindoro Beyerinaryo, performed a two-hour operation. The procedure successfully addressed the primary issues, excising the breast tumor and removing the infected uterus. Additional findings during surgery included polycystic ovaries and a severely fibrotic cervix, which were also managed.


Thanks to our team's comprehensive approach and technical expertise, the patient is now fully recovered. This case highlights our ability to handle complex and high-risk procedures, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our geriatric patients. We are committed to extending the health and quality of life for all pets in our care.
