Seeking help is not easy. The stigma surrounding mental health issues and conditions, the cost of care, and even the information on social media can be overwhelming. But hereโs the truth: Asking for support is a sign of strength, not weakness, and finding the right kind of help can make all the difference.
Common Forms of Mental Health Care:
Guidance Counseling: Usually available in school settings, this consists of psychosocial support and skills building that caters to student concerns.
Counseling and Psychotherapy: This can be just for a few sessions or a long-term engagement with a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist to express and explore oneself and one's feelings, learn new skills, gain insights, and take actionable steps while strengthening existing resources.
Psychiatric Consult: Specialist medical consultations focused on diagnosis of mental illness/condition and possible prescription of medications.
