The Supreme Student Council acknowledges the advisory released by the Department of Education โ€“ National Capital Region (DepEd NCR) regarding the suspension of face-to-face classes on October 13โ€“14, 2025, due to the increasing incidence of influenza-like illnesses and the recent series of earthquakes affecting various parts of the country.

In line with this, we are actively coordinating with the university officials to address the concerns of the student body and ensure the continuity of learning in a safe and manageable manner. The Council has also initiated a request to shift ongoing classes from synchronous to asynchronous mode to provide students with greater flexibility and consideration during this period.

We understand that the suspension currently applies only up to Senior High School. The Supreme Student Council is taking the initiative to represent and raise the concerns, sentiments, and requests of other students from different departments who are also affected by this situation. Our goal is to advocate for fairness, safety, and inclusivity in all decisions that directly impact the student body.

The Supreme Student Council remains committed to transparency, open communication, and proactive action in addressing the needs of all students during this time. Together, we can overcome these challenges through cooperation, understanding, and resilience.

Every instance of uncontrolled flooding carries stories of refuge, struggle, and hope. However, behind these are underlying questions about how our citizensโ€™ hard-earned taxes are being managed. The inadequacy and the outright absence of effective flood control projects not only undermine the resilience and sacrifice of the Filipino people but also expose how public funds have been mismanaged through corruption.

Since 2022, billions of pesos have been allocated to flood control projects. Yet recent audits and testimonies show that many of these projects are substandard, mislocated, duplicated, or, in some cases, completely non-existent โ€œghost projects.โ€ The reports indicate kickbacks of up to 25%, billion-peso contracts with undercapitalized companies, and increased funding for non-flood-prone areas. These issues lead to systematic abuse that jeopardizes vulnerable communities.

The University of Caloocan City Supreme Student Council condemns this widespread and systemic corruption in the governmentโ€™s implementation of flood control projects. We demand full transparency in all flood control contracts and allocations, accountability for all officials, contractors, and legislators implicated in these projects, and an independent investigation free from political interference. We also call for ensuring strict adherence to Republic Act No. 12009, or the New Government Procurement Act (NGPA), to end mock bidding, collusion, and contractor favoritism.

Walang kontratistang dapat gawing โ€˜state witnessโ€™.
