DIPLOPIA means double vision — seeing two images of a single object.
It can affect one eye (monocular diplopia) or both eyes (binocular diplopia).

👁️ What Happens in Diplopia

Normally, both eyes work together to focus light on corresponding points of each retina.
The brain then merges the two images into one clear picture.
When this coordination is disrupted — by muscle imbalance, nerve problems, or eye structure issues — the brain receives mismatched signals, resulting in double images.

⚠️ Causes of Diplopia

1️⃣ Binocular Diplopia (Both Eyes)

This type goes away when you close one eye. Common causes include:

-Eye muscle weakness or paralysis (due to nerve damage)
-Strabismus (misalignment, like crossed eyes)
-Diabetes or hypertension (affecting eye nerves)
-Thyroid eye disease (Graves’ disease)
