TAU - College of Agriculture and Forestry

TAU - College of Agriculture and Forestry Center of Development for Agriculture Estrada as the College President with Dr. Camilo C. Laranang as the first Dean. Ibarra as TCA President.

The College of Agriculture evolved from the Department of Higher Education in 1982 during the incumbency of Dr. Robustiano J. Pioneer courses offered included Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Animal Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, the latter then created as an autonomous Institute in 1983. Two-year courses such as Associate in Agricultural Technology and Certificate in Animal Technology were added as program offerings. Envisioning sustainable rural development through viable and competitive agriculture, agroforestry and environmental programs, Board Resolution No. 52, s. 2000 provided for the merging of the Institute of Agriculture and the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 2002 to become the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry (IAF) upon the ascendancy of Dr. Philip B. This expanded the courses offered with the addition of Bachelor of Science in Forestry and the 2-year Forest Ranger Certificate. The verticalization of the graduate studies program was implemented through Board Resolution No. 51, s. 2002, the Institute started Ph.D. in Rural Development, Agronomy, Swine Production, and Poultry Production, Master of Science in Agriculture with majors in Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, and Farming Systems Development, Master of Science in Forestry and Master of Forestry. In 2006, the offering of Bachelor of Science in Food Technology was absorbed by CAF brought about by the dissolution of the Institute of Home Science and Technology. This paved the way to what CAF is today: an Institute with five departments: Animal Science, Crop Science, Food Technology, Forestry and Graduate Program, each headed by a Chairman. Today, CAF is equipped with committed faculty members in the pursuit for excellence in providing education and training for sustainable agri-industrial development through instruction, research, extension and production.

To our team in the 15th National Forestry Olympiad, Congratulations!

Out of 8 events, you excelled in four:

4th Place – Wood Identification
5th Place – Leaf Identification
8th Place – Plant Disease Identification
10th Place – Seed Identification

Competing against 26 forestry schools nationwide, you proved once again that we belong on the national stage.

10th place overall, the same spot we achieved during the 14th NFO. Consistency matters. Staying in the Top 10 in a national competition is something to be proud of.

We sincerely thank our coaches, the whole Department of Forestry, for their patience, guidance, and dedication. Your hard work behind the scenes made this possible.

Our heartfelt gratitude as well to the TAU Administration, under the leadership of Dr. Silverio Ramon DC Salunson, University President and to Dr. Sinamar E. Estudillo, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Forestry, for the full support and trust in our team.

We are also deeply thankful to our alumni in Israel, Jeanrick Ta-a and Noriel Lanuza, for supporting us in every way possible. Your generosity and encouragement mean so much to us.

The National Forestry Olympiad is more than a competition... it is a test of heart, skill, and teamwork. And this year, you showed all of that.

We are proud of you...
Padayon, Kerbybies.

Now that the Olympiad has officially begun, we are sending the biggest wave of luck and support to Ropemi, Ian, Claire, Arljon, Kim, and their incredible coaching staff!

To the TAU delegation: Your hard work, late hours, and passion for forestry are already a massive point of pride for the university. Trust in your training, give it your all, and show what Tarlac Agricultural University is made of.

Bring home the gold, TAU! We are cheering for you!

The Department of Forestry conducted an exploratory meeting and needs assessment with the Abelling Tribal Council of Sitio Tala, Burgos, San Jose, Tarlac, led by their Chieftain, Jojo L. Capinding last January 10, 2026.

The department aims to adopt the community as part of its extension program, focusing on sustainable forest management, ancestral domain stewardship, and organizational capacity building. Key areas identified during the needs assessment include strengthening knowledge on Indigenous Peoples’ rights, environmental laws, and livelihood-enhancing skills to help improve the quality of life of the community.

The department also envisions future collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) should this initiative move forward and prosper.
