TAU - College of Agriculture and Forestry

TAU - College of Agriculture and Forestry Center of Development for Agriculture Estrada as the College President with Dr. Camilo C. Laranang as the first Dean. Ibarra as TCA President.

The College of Agriculture evolved from the Department of Higher Education in 1982 during the incumbency of Dr. Robustiano J. Pioneer courses offered included Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Animal Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, the latter then created as an autonomous Institute in 1983. Two-year courses such as Associate in Agricultural Technology and Certificate in Animal Technology were added as program offerings. Envisioning sustainable rural development through viable and competitive agriculture, agroforestry and environmental programs, Board Resolution No. 52, s. 2000 provided for the merging of the Institute of Agriculture and the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 2002 to become the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry (IAF) upon the ascendancy of Dr. Philip B. This expanded the courses offered with the addition of Bachelor of Science in Forestry and the 2-year Forest Ranger Certificate. The verticalization of the graduate studies program was implemented through Board Resolution No. 51, s. 2002, the Institute started Ph.D. in Rural Development, Agronomy, Swine Production, and Poultry Production, Master of Science in Agriculture with majors in Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, and Farming Systems Development, Master of Science in Forestry and Master of Forestry. In 2006, the offering of Bachelor of Science in Food Technology was absorbed by CAF brought about by the dissolution of the Institute of Home Science and Technology. This paved the way to what CAF is today: an Institute with five departments: Animal Science, Crop Science, Food Technology, Forestry and Graduate Program, each headed by a Chairman. Today, CAF is equipped with committed faculty members in the pursuit for excellence in providing education and training for sustainable agri-industrial development through instruction, research, extension and production.

TSU Strengthens Research Collaboration with TAU Through New Joint Biodiversity Projects

The Tarlac State University (TSU), through its Office of University Research Development, has reaffirmed its strong research partnership with Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) as it advances three major biodiversity and conservation projects under an approved Memorandum of Agreements.

In a formal communication dated October 29, 2025, TSU expressed its continued commitment to collaborative research efforts, particularly with the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) of TAU. The initiative highlights the shared goals of both institutions to generate scientific knowledge, strengthen biodiversity conservation, and advance environmental stewardship in Tarlac Province.

The following research projects will be implemented jointly:

1. Water Quality and Plant Diversity Analysis on the Longitudinal Riparian Zone of Camiling River
2. DNA Barcoding and Phylogenetic Analysis of Different Macrofungi from Mt. Damas, San Clemente, Tarlac, Based on ITS nrDNA Region
3. Morphological and Molecular Identification, and Ex Situ Conservation of Endemic Plants from Mt. Damas, San Clemente, Tarlac

TAUโ€“TSU Joint Research Initiative Launches Field Data Collection for Camiling River Water Quality and Plant Diversity Study

Researchers from Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) and Tarlac State University (TSU) carried out field data collection for the study โ€œWater Quality and Plant Diversity Analysis on the Longitudinal Riparian Zone of Camiling Riverโ€ on November 13โ€“14, 2025. The activity is part of the ongoing TAUโ€“TSU Joint Research Initiative, which supports collaborative studies on local environmental conditions and biodiversity.

During the two-day survey, the team collected water quality measurements, including pH, turbidity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen, at selected points along the river. They also documented riparian plant species, their abundance, and general vegetation characteristics. Additional observations on land use, habitat conditions, and other environmental factors were recorded to support the overall assessment.

Technical support for the fieldwork was provided by the TAU-CAF-Department of Forestry, represented by Mileatte P. Omaney, RPF, Maidas L. Anson, RPF, and Christian O. Llait, RPF. Their assistance helped ensure that sampling procedures and documentation were carried out properly.

This activity is one of the joint research efforts of TAU and TSU aimed at gathering baseline information useful for environmental planning and monitoring in the Camiling River area. The team will next conduct follow-up data collections, laboratory analysis and verify plant species collected during the fieldwork. Findings from the study will be compiled and shared with concerned offices to help support future planning.
