TOTAL: 161 Successful Blood Donors out of 214 Registered Donors!

The City Government of Candon, through the City Health Office headed by City Health Officer Joy Villanueva , successfully conducted its quarterly Bloodletting Activity on December 19, 2025.

The successful implementation of this activity was made possible through the steadfast support and leadership of City Mayor Eric D. Singson , Vice Mayor Atty. Kristelle Singson , and the Members of the City Council, whose dedication to health-centered programs remains instrumental in promoting community welfare.

The City Government also extends its sincere appreciation to its valued partner institutions, the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) and Ilocos Sur Medical Center (ISMC), whose medical teams and technical expertise overall smooth flow of operations throughout the activity.

The City Government of Candon expresses its deepest gratitude to all the selfless blood donors, dedicated volunteers, health personnel, and partner agencies who contributed their time, effort, and generosity to make this event a resounding success.

Together, let us continue to promote a culture of voluntary blood donation and work hand in hand toward building a healthier, more responsive, and more resilient City of Candon. 💉❤️

𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣| 𝘽𝙉𝘾 𝙍𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣

In support of the City Government of Candon's continuing efforts to improve the nutritional status of the community, through the leadership of the City Mayor and Chairman of City Nutrition Council Eric D. Singson and City Nutrition Action Officer Mr. Brando Castro, the 42 Barangays of the City of Candon undertook the reorganization of its Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC). This initiative aligns with the mandates of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and the guidelines set by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) for effective local nutrition program management. The reorganization aims to strengthen coordination, enhance program implementation, and ensure that nutrition-related services reach all segments of the barangay population.

The reorganization of the Barangay Nutrition Committee marks a significant step in revitalizing the barangay’s commitment to improving the nutritional well-being of its residents. By appointing dedicated and competent members, the barangay is better equipped to implement nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions. The newly reorganized BNC is expected to work collaboratively toward achieving a healthier, better-nourished City of Candon.

Key agreements reached include the preparation of the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan, scheduling of Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+), preparation for the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan and Implementation (MELLPI), strengthening of nutrition education activities, and the setting of regular quarterly meetings.

📈 Top Health Concerns in the Philippines in 2025

The Philippine Statistics Authority reports the top causes of death in the country for January to April 2025 (Provisional as of 30 September 2025). Leading the list were:

🩸 Diabetes mellitus

While the numbers reflect ongoing health challenges, they also remind us to take small steps toward better lifestyle choices, regular check-ups, and stronger support for community health.

Theme: "Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response"

The City Government of Candon, under the leadership of City Mayor Eric D. Singson, successfully held the World AIDS Day culminating program, highlighting our continued commitment to strengthening HIV awareness, prevention, and compassionate care for all Candonians.

As part of the celebration, a lay lecture on HIV in Pregnancy, made possible through the expertise of Dra. Julie Ann Gumangan, empowered attendees with vital knowledge on protecting maternal health, preventing vertical transmission, and ensuring timely access to life-saving services.This initiative underscores our aim to transform the AIDS response by promoting informed, stigma-free, and family centeted care.

In continuation of the advocacy, A leture/ symposium to different Schools was held particularly students on HIV/AIDS awareness, basic facts about how HIV spreads and prevention methods. Under the initiative of Dr. Raph Laurence Ganado Mamaspas, Medical Officer IV, Candon City Health Office

This activity forms part of the boarder efforts of the Candon City Health Office-guided by the dedication of Dr. Joy Villanueva, City Health Officer --to advance public health programs through continous education, early detection, and accessible services.

Our collective works reflects this year's theme: despite disruptions and challenges, we push forward with resilience and innovation to build a healthier, more inclusive community.

The 𝐶𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑛 𝐶𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ 𝑂𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒 – 𝑀𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑚 was invited by 𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐲, through 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐨, to conduct a 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 for their dedicated 𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬.

The activity featured a focused lecture on Mental Health in the Workplace, followed by fun and interactive games that highlighted effective coping strategies for stress and burnout. These activities also emphasized the importance of work–life balance and naturally turned into a team-building experience, strengthening camaraderie among the participants while promoting awareness and well-being.

The team from Candon City Health Office was led by 𝑴𝒓. 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒍 𝑲𝒊𝒕 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒛, Mental Health Program Coordinator, together with 𝑴𝒔. 𝑱𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒐, 𝑴𝒓. 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 𝑱𝒂𝒚 𝑰𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒏, and 𝑴𝒓. 𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒍 𝑭𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝑫𝒊𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒏.

🤰𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐒 𝐊𝐈𝐓𝐒

27 November 2025 - Four years ago, the City Health Office launched the Buntis Kit Distribution Program with a simple intention — to provide a bit of assistance and support to pregnant women in Candon City as they journey through one of the most meaningful milestones in life: giving birth.

Since then, this activity has been conducted twice a year, benefiting countless soon-to-be mothers and helping them feel more prepared and cared for.

Today, we continue this commitment with the distribution of our buntis kits. The City Health Office remains hopeful that in the coming years, we will be able to provide even more kits to ensure that all pregnant women in Candon receive this support.

A heartfelt thank you to the City Government of Candon headed by City Mayor Eric D. Singson, the City Health Office under the leadership of Dr. Joy Villanueva, and the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) under the Candon City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Mrs. Alma Gabor for their continuous support in making this program possible.

Daycare pupils and their parents participated in the REDCOP (Renal Disease Control Program) lecture and availed of free urinalysis, emphasizing the importance of early detection and healthy habits.
