On March 17, 2026, the Catbalogan City Health Department conducted a Cervical Cancer Awareness activity at Brgy. Maulong, Catbalogan City.
The activity aimed to educate women in the community about cervical cancer one of the most preventable yet common cancers among women. Cervical cancer is primarily caused by persistent infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is usually transmitted through intimate contact. Early stages often show no symptoms, making regular screening very important.
Participants were informed about common warning signs such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, unusual discharge, and pelvic pain. More importantly, emphasis was given on prevention through HPV vaccination, regular screening (such as Pap smear or VIA), and early detection, which greatly increases the chances of successful treatment.
The health team also encouraged women to take advantage of available free screening services at health centers and to prioritize their reproductive health.
This initiative highlights the commitment of the Catbalogan City Health Department in empowering women through awareness, prevention, and accessible healthcare services.
