This January, the Municipal Health Office of Cateel joins the nation in observing Schistosomiasis Awareness Month.

Schistosomiasis (locally known as snail fever) remains a challenge in our province, especially for our hardworking farmers and families living near freshwater areas. This parasitic disease is often "silent," but if left untreated, it can lead to chronic weakness, liver damage, and long-term health complications for our children and loved ones.

How can we protect Cateel?
Our best defense is collective action! We can reduce the burden of this disease through:
โœ… Proper Sanitation: Avoid defecating in open areas to stop the parasite's life cycle.
โœ… Safe Water: Use clean water for drinking and bathing.
โœ… Protection: Wear boots or PPE if you must work in marshy areas or rice fields.
โœ… Mass Drug Administration (MDA): This is our most vital strategy to protect our barangays!

๐Ÿ’Š BE PART OF THE SOLUTION
The MHO Cateel will be conducting Mass Drug Administration (MDA). This provides safe and effective treatment to protect our at-risk communities and break the chain of transmission.

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to one of the strongest champions in the fight against schistosomiasisโ€”our beloved medical technologist, mentor, and friend.

She was more than a colleagueโ€”she was a guiding light in Barangay Taytayan and the whole of Cateel's journey toward eliminating parasitic diseases. With a heart full of compassion and a life dedicated to public health, she inspired many young medical technologists to serve with purpose and integrity.

Your legacy will live on in every step we take towards a schisto-free Cateel.
