An easy acronym to remember when you find yourself worrying: WORRY --
Watch Your Mindset:
The first step is to acknowledge and recognize when you start to worry. Remember that it is a disorder of thinking in itself, and you can do something about it to help yourself feel better. What happens to you when you worry? How does it affect your mood and relationship? These things are important for you to know.
Opt for Being Positive:
We dwell on the negative - this is why we worry. But remember that thinking is a choice. Look again, maybe you are foregoing the positive aspects of what you are worrying.
Rethink Your Concerns:
If being positive is difficult, take a step back and objectively analyze your worries. Are your worries based on facts or assumptions? Is there evidence to support these worries? What is the worst-case scenario, and how likely is it to happen? Are there steps I can take to address these concerns?
Reframe your Thoughts:
Once you have analyzed your worries, you are ready to reframe it to a positive and rational thought. Opt for a thought that is true, helpful, inspiring, necessary and kind.
Yield to Peace:
Finally, after going through these steps, mindfully find a sense of calm and peace. Take necessary steps if there is a solution to your worry, or maybe, it requires letting go of your worry because there is no truth to it and it consumes you big time.
