GERD = Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease
(Heartburn)

Heartburn Symptoms
How do you know you suffer from heartburn or Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)?
Heartburn is caused by stomach acids rising into the esophagus (food pipe).
This results in a tightening or burning sensation in the back of the throat and chest area. This burning sensation is more likely to be experienced after eating, and lasting up to several hours.

This tightening sensation can be accompanied by a painful one in the chest.
The chest pain might be more predominant when lying down, bending over or eating.

Indigestion Symptoms
Heartburn and indigestion often go along. 16% of all heartburn sufferers, also experience indigestion.

How do you know you suffer from indigestion?
With indigestion, pain may be felt at the top of the stomach and abdomen.
Many people feel bloated or uncomfortably full and gaseous, combined with the symptoms of burping and flatulence.
There may also be nausea or vomiting and a loss of appetite.

Dietary and lifestyle choices can become triggers for metabolism disorders such as GERD or acidosis, which can eventually causes heartburn and indigestion.

GERD (Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease) is caused by defective lower esophageal sphincter, this is the muscle situated between the esophagus (food pipe) and the stomach. This muscle stops the reflux of the stomach contents, including stomach acids, back into the esophagus, which usually causes the burning sensation. Therefore, GERD usually leads to heartburn.

Heartburn and Indigestion tend to have similar causes.
These include:
1. How the way you eat, can cause heartburn and indigestion
Eating large meals can cause your stomach to produce too much acid, which can lead to acidosis. Physically 'overfilling' the stomach can create pressure and cause acid reflux. This can lead to heartburn and indigestion. (BAWAL SOBRANG BUSOG/BONDAT NA AKALA MO LAST SUPPER NA) 😆

Fatty foods tend to stay in your stomach for longer because fats are slower to digest. This can cause heartburn and indigestion.
Foods such as chocolate and mint may have a relaxant effect on the sphincter enabling acid to escape back up. This leads to heartburn.
Spicy foods, onions and tomato products can lead to heartburn and indigestion.

5. The types of drinks that can cause heartburn and indigestion. (UNIINUM MASKI ANO BASTA MAY PANGTULAK NG CHIBOG)
Caffeinated drinks and alcohol tend to increase acidity in your stomach.
Very hot drinks and citrus juices may also be triggers.

Other known causes of heartburn and indigestion
6. Certain medicines, such as those for heart problems, asthma and high blood pressure can sometimes make your stomach produce more acid.

7. Being overweight or wearing tight clothes can put pressure on your stomach.

8. Smoking can encourage acid production and cause the sphincter to relax, leading to both GERD and acidosis. It may also slow down the production of saliva which helps protect the esophagus.

Baby Powder (Corn Starch): it's safe. It's more expensive.

Baby Powder (Talc): it is possible with connection to ovarian cancer in the woman. Not sure.

Main TIPS:
1. in the woman, avoid putting baby powder (made of talc) in the groin. Because it is possible to go into the va**na of the woman to the ovaries. Not sure. But it is possible to cause cancer in the ovaries.
2. Safer Baby Powder made in corn starch. Johnson's has launched a new formula from corn starch. It's safe but it's just a little expensive.
3. in the baby, don't put powder the face and nose and maybe air the powder. It can be difficult to breathe or asthma the baby.
4. If the powder will be used sometimes in the face, body, hands or legs, I think it's safe.

Recently won a ovarian cancer patient of Us$ 110 million or 5 billion pesos in his case filed battle with Johnson & Johnson (J & J), the famous international baby powder manufacturers.

The results of the people are different from the people. Others have not seen higher danger, while others have seen a slight increase of risk of having ovarian cancer.

Iniuuri the international agency for research on cancer (Iarc) of the world health organization (who) Using Asbestos-free talcum powder in the groin "possibly carcinogenic to humans" or there is a possibility to cause cancer based on limited evidence, while in breath Asbestos-free talcum powder is "not classifiable" or not maiuri.

While there is no definite answer, people concerned with possible risk using talcum powder can maglimita their use of it.

Note: American Cancer Society statement: "Until more information is available, people concerned about using talcum powder may want to avoid or limit their use of consumer products that contain it."
