4th RCMH MEETING | The Central Visayas Regional Council for Mental Health (CV RCMH) was convened for its 4th Meeting, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Cebu City. Chaired by the Department of Health - Central Visayas Center for Health Development, members of the RCMH discussed pressing challenges and develop strategies in addressing mental health concerns in the region. It was attended by member agencies: CSC-7, DSWD-7, DOLE-7, DILG-7, CHED-7, DOJ-7, PMHA Cebu, Provincial and City Health Offices, CNU, USC, and other non-government organizations.

IN PHOTOS: OIC SINGH-VERGEIRE LEADS 18TH PCMH MEETING, UNDERSCORES THE NEED TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LEARNING INSTITUTIONS FOR UHC

Department of Health Officer-in-Charge Dr. Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire today led the 18th Philippine Council for Mental Health Meeting, which was joined by the Department of Education (DepEd), along with other member agencies such as Departments of Labor and Employment, Interior and Local Government and Social Welfare and Development; Commissions on Higher Education and Human Rights; and Technical Education Skills Development Authority.

The OIC highlighted the efforts of the DOH-Health Promotion Bureau (DOH-HPB) in further promoting the Healthy Learning Institution (HLI) Strategies for the further realization of the Mental Health Act in accordance with Universal Health Care.

The discussion also included the legislative efforts to institutionalize school-based mental health programs in schools. This is to emphasize that mental health is more than the presence or absence of mental health disorder and will take more than counseling and clinical interventions. In its presentation, the DepEd said that it will create a comprehensive mental health in basic education policy and continue training its learners and personnel on basic psychosocial support skills and intervention to uphold its commitment to the PCMH.

Furthermore, the creation of a steering committee for the 1st National Mental Health & Well-being Conference 2023 was discussed to reinforce the alliance of all concerned stakeholders in championing the Mental Health Act.

"We are now strengthening our collaboration efforts with DepEd to bring our mental health services and programs closer to students, na tinitiyak na ang pangangalaga sa kalusugan ng isip ay magagamit para sa lahat ng yugto ng buhay, lalo na sa ating mga kabataan, sa iba't ibang mga setting at antas ng pangangalaga, at bukod sa mga serbisyo gusto rin natin na maging proactive lalo na ang ating mga paaralan pagdating sa pag-promote ng mental health at well-being ng ating mag estudyante,” said OIC Vergeire.

The Cebu City Health Department - Mental Health Program provided Psychological First-Aid (PFA) / Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to the fire survivors of Sitio Little Plaza, Inayawan, Cebu City who were displaced by the fire incident last March 17, 2023. The survivors were sheltered at Inayawan Gymnasium (Emilio RM Jaca Sr. Sports Complex and Cultural Center).

Indeed, their 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 to strive forward are insurmountable. ❤️

The Cebu City Health - Mental Health Program Task Force had a meeting with the National Mental Health Program Task Force of DOH-VII headed by Mrs. Cristeta Gloria,RMT.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming activities, services and trainings in Mental Health to be conducted in Cebu City. The DOH - VII’s National Mental Health Program also provided leaflets and brochures to City Health Department for its Mental Health awareness and promotion services.

ACTIVITY: Psychological First Aid for the Looc Fire Victims

The Mandaue City Substance Abuse Prevention Office visited the Looc Elementary School where the affected families of the recent fire at Sitio Paradise in Barangay Looc are temporarily housed.

Alongside donations of clothes, food, and toiletries, Psychological First Aid was also facilitated by the MCSAPO and CHO staff. This intervention aims to reduce the psychological distress and promote adaptive functioning of the survivors of the tragedy. Pamphlets containing information on psychosocial support and crisis intervention were also distributed to them.
