“Understanding Latent Hyperopia or Hidden Farsightedness”
A Case study presentation for 9 y/o female student

A patient, under normal testing conditions presented to be myopic or nearsighted on her left eye. However, even with the strongest myopic lens, there is no improvement in vision. So cycloplegic refraction was done.

Alas! Hyperopia revealed itself! This degree of farsightedness causes headaches and disrupted her visual system in the long run.

Imagine a 9 year old patient, appeared to be nearsighted at first (LE -2.75DS), but actually farsighted (LE +1.00DS). This is how cycloplegic refraction is significant in every pediatric eye assessment.
