This is a Long post for Diabetic but worth reading.

I have a patient that went to “lost to follow up” after telling him to better get a diabetologist and a nephrologist (he doesn’t want to visit the doctor thati told him so I thought He didn’t want a follow up). When he came back, this is what he said.

Patient: Doc, di na ko mag balik didto kay piliton ko nila mag insulin. “Maguba akon kidney”.
Me: Kinsa nag ingon nga maka guba kidney ang insulin sir?

So I explained to him the mechanism and all considerations and I thought I should also share it to everyone to avoid medical misconception and misinformation.

WHAT IS INSULIN AND WHY DOCTORS PRESCRIBE THEM?

>Insulin is a “HORMONE”, a peptide from the beta cells of your pancreas (pancreas is an organ that regulates your blood sugar and produces many other hormones for different functions).
MEANING, WE NATURALLY PRODUCE INSULIN. The reason we advise Insulin use because your body (pancreas) can’t produce Insulin, can be not enough because it was probably destroyed or damaged. Some people have functional pancreas producing insulin but the “Diet” or “Sugar consumption” is too high that their pancreas cant handle to lower it.

In the absence of “Insulin Production” or “Too High sugar intake”, sugar can not be controlled easily despite of oral medications such as metformin and gliclazide as single or dual medication, we decide to add the “Insulin” to the regimen.

WHERE DID THE MISINFORMATION COME FROM?

It all boils down to “business”. People who wants to sell you something, bad mouth medical practitioners to sell their products.

WHY DO PEOPLE ON INSULIN DIE?

Insulin, is not a life extension injection. Its purpose is to control the sugar in the bloodstream to avoid the complications of high sugar concentrations and sequelae of diabetes.

They dont die because of Insulin, they die in many reasons and does not prove singularity of cause such as insulin use.

TO ANSWER, “MAGUBA AKON KIDNEY”.

There is NO TRUTH to this. In fact, IT HELPS YOUR KIDNEY against the EFFECTS OF SUGAR IN YOUR KIDNEY.

Ahhhhhh…. Taasa na akong post, basta. We doctors, will NEVER recommend you something without high standard of scrutiny.

Please help me spread the truth and save your family and friends against misinformation.

❤️❤️❤️

I just copied it from my friend. Hopefully others will help them understand why we Doctors want to give you an Insulin.
