Cebu City โ Following the recent 6.9 earthquake in Northern Cebu, the Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNCl) convened for its 3rd Cluster meeting on 13 October 2025 to review on-going nutrition in emergencies (NiEm) activities and confer action points to facilitate delivery of nutrition services in hard-hit areas.
The discussion focused on the status of NiEm operations, review of the Minimum Service Package, deployment plan, and expected outputs to ensure that nutrition services will remain accessible to affected families. Dr. Parolita A. Mission of the National Nutrition Council Region VII (NNC 7) who also serves as the RNCl Chair emphasized the importance of coordinated actions across all levels of government to safeguard the nutrition and health of vulnerable populations, particularly children and mothers.
As of the latest report, a total of 5 nutrition cluster teams has already been deployed to support the response operations. Partner agencies involved include the Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD), NNC 7, Cebu Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC), the Lactation, Attachment, Training, Counseling, Help (LATCH) Cebu, and local nutrition clusters of Cebu City and Mandaue City. Another set of trained nutrition teams will be deployed on 14-17 October 2025.
The logistics provided by the cluster included 80 breastfeeding kits, 100 bottles of Vitamin A (200,000 IU), 20 bottles of Vitamin A (100,000 IU), 324 boxes of Iron-Folic Acid, 15 boxes of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), and 578 boxes of Micronutrient Powder (MNP). In addition, a freezer for human milk and a breastfeeding kit were also made available to support safe infant feeding in emergencies.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Cebu Provincial Nutrition Office, Cebu City Nutrition Committee, Mandaue City Nutrition Committee, the DOHโs Nutrition Development Division Program of Northern Cebu, and the NNC 7.
Dr. Mission further underscored that coordination and planning do remain critical in maintaining continuity of nutrition services, especially in times of crisis. Through this collective action and technical guidance from NNC 7, the region continues to uphold its goal of ensuring that nutrition interventions remain responsive, inclusive, and efficient in emergency settings. // CDU BSND Intern Justin Clark M.
