Limitless:
Learning sign language to listen to the stories of the hearing-impaired.
For today’s , we asked Almyrah this question:
“Working closely with the PWDs, what is the message that you want to carry to the non-PWD?".

Almyrah Acuña is not just a tchoukball champion, but a champion advocate for the hearing impaired. She’s a 20-year-old 2nd year student of Bachelor of Special Needs Education – Generalist Special Needs (BSNED-GSN). She interprets vocal messages to the hearing impaired through sign language.
She grew up in a family who are leaders for the church’s Deaf Ministry. Her father is a Doctor of Education Major in Special Education who teaches in several universities. Her mother is a full-time church staff, whose major ministry includes interpreting in court for the hearing-impaired who are sexually abused. Her brother will also pursue a degree in Special Education.
She has seen the structural barriers that hinder the hearing impaired from self-actualization – limited access to formal education, economic exclusion, limited participation in civil activities, among others. She believes God has placed her in this ministry for a purpose, and that God is the only source of patience to press on, when the communication barrier seems insurmountable.
