"Most people who practiced yoga think that they can source out what they only need from one practice to the next to avoid the philosophical and religious aspect of it. It's like getting nectar from flowers and turning it into honey. Let's say you get ideas from one guru unto the next and be your own guru. This is very contrary to the core philosophy of yoga which is union or unity.

You have to be loyal to one practice because not all paths of Yoga have the same end goal. One practitioner may end up only up mastering asanas. Others may end up in self-realization. Still others may imitate God-like Ascension.

The core teaching of Yoga is to "unite in spiritual love", the union of jiva atma (we, the spirit souls) with bhagavan (God or Supreme Supersoul) in love and devotion (Bhakti).

Bhakti is the highest realization one can attain beyond all paths of Yoga. It is only achieved when you surrender unto the lotus feet of a bonafide spiritual master who came from a long line of disciplic succession from time immemorial, from God Himself.

This practise of submission and surrender has been demonized from the whitewash of modern practitioners because of their encounters from fake and charlatan gurus. Yet, when they become gurus themselves, they will hoard their followers to stay in their community and be loyal to them but they themselves were not loyal to a one guru. The most unfortunate of it is to guide and lead them to temporary and flaring practices which are superficial by nature due to lack of knowledge, wisdom and essence. Such a contrary to ideals and beliefs yoga in itself!

Ideally, we should find that a bonafide guru is similar to Jesus and other sages. It is our responsibility to find and spot the right guru to guide and lead us to achieve pure spiritual realization so we can traverse this life with ease and be situated in the realm of God--our eternal abode.

Bonafide gurus are not ordinary person. They are the representative of God. They embody the core teachings. Just like how Jesus imparted the Holy Spirit to his disciples. They can impart the truth because they have seen and experience it themselves. They are empowered by God.

So, if one practitioner will teach you to avoid the spiritual and religious aspect of Yoga, brace yourself because that particular practitioner did not dig deeper and seeped into the core teaching and realized the true essence of the practise. Most likely he/she is after to make a living to refund the high cost of his/her yoga trainings. Worst of all is to use the practise, the misguided practices to appease themselves to become worthy because their experiences from miserable and traumatic lives.
