In celebration of the Nutrition Month Culmination, the Medical-Dental Services in coordination with Maam Sheila Abellar, Head Teacher V of the Senior High School Office launched “Mission Slimpossible: Drop the Weight, Boost the Life” a 4 month program that encourages the teaching and non-teaching personnel of Abellana National School to adopt a healthier lifestyle through gradual and safe weight management and improve their physical and mental wellbeing. To kickstart, a Zumba session was held at 7:30 am at the Abellana National School Quadrangle.

In line with the National CPR Day celebration last July 17, 2025, the Health Emergency Management Bureau - Department of Health (HEMB-DOH) with their partner organizations conducted a Hands-only CPR training last July 25, 2025 at the Abellana National School Gymnasium. This was participated by our Grade 10 & 11 learners, together with representatives from our school organizations: SSLG, ANS RCY, ANS Rescue, BSP and GSP.

This aimed to empower participants with essential life-saving techniques. The session provided a practical and accessible approach to cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Through hands-on demonstrations and guided practice, attendees learned how to respond confidently and quickly during cardiac emergencies. The training emphasized that anyone can save a life—no medical background required.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to promote health, safety, and preparedness in our community. Thank you to everyone who participated and showed that with just your hands, you can make a difference.

It’s a fun way to learn about nutrition, and win prizes in the end!

for the month of March, we have 5batches of Nursing students and 1batch for April 2025 assigned at ANS Clinic. They did several functions such as health teachings on Drug Awareness to Grade 7 students, assisted & taking of vital signs during consultations & emergencies as well as making bulletin displays of Drug Awareness & Adolescent Reproductive Health(ARH) at the ANS-Clinic. HIV/AIDS 101

On March 28, 2025, a successful HIV Seminar and Free and Voluntary HIV Screening was conducted at the Abellana National School Gymnasium. This important initiative was held in partnership with the Philippine Catholic HIV/AIDS Network (PHILCHAN) and was made possible through the active assistance of the ANS Red Cross Youth Council. The event was attended by 4sections of Grade 11 & 1 section Grade 8 students of Abellana National School, who were given the opportunity to learn about HIV/AIDS—its causes, prevention, and the importance of early detection. The seminar aimed to raise awareness, break the stigma surrounding HIV, and empower the youth with accurate and life-saving information. Our speakers: Dr. Greta U. Canoy, Ms. Maria Taping and Ms. Maria Ligaya Suico, MS Chem, RCh, and trained volunteers from PHILCHAN facilitated the seminar and conducted confidential HIV screenings for students who volunteered to take part. The activity emphasized not only health and safety but also compassion and community support. Overall, the seminar was a meaningful step towards promoting health education and responsible decision-making among young individuals. It also highlighted the importance of community partnerships in addressing public health concerns.

School Health Nursing from ACT

Abellana National School – Clinic section in coordination with DEPED Cebu City has been used as a venue for the School Health Nursing exposure of different Nursing Colleges/Universities.
For this month February 2025, 5batches of nursing students from Asian College of Technology (ACT) were assigned at our school clinic. They did several functions such as health teachings on various topics to Gr.7 students, assisted & taking of vital signs during consultations, emergencies and Annual Learners Health Assessment(LHAS).

March is Rabies Awareness Month and in celebration, the Medical-Dental Services of Abellana National School launched the “Ow! Sa Aw and Meow: An Animal Bite and Rabies Awareness Seminar” held last March 4, 2025 at the Abellana National School Audio-Visual Room. With the rising number of animal bite cases treated at the clinic, we took the initiative to hold an awareness program that will inform and educate our learners about proper animal and pet handling, as well as the dangers of the rabies virus and how to prevent its infection.

A health The seminar was conducted, given by our guest speaker, Dr. Angelie N. Nocido, the Medical Director of Rabies Buster Animal Bite Treatment Center in Minglanilla and was attended by our Grade 7 learnerns, particularly sections Himawari, Bluebell, Iris and Aster. Dr. Nocido’s knowledge and expertise made the seminar engaging and insightful for our learners, who actively listened and participated during the talk.

The seminar concluded with our learners bringing home additional knowledge and safety when it comes to pet handling and how to properly prevent rabies infection.

The Abellana National School Guidance and Student Development Center in partnership with the Medical and Dental Services and Zonta International conducted the “Empower to Empower” Program last February 17, 2025, a symposium for our Grade 7, 9 and Senior High Learners that tackled reproductive health, puberty and adolescent sexuality.
Our guest speaker from Zonta International, Carl Dave Ang gave a very engaging and informative session about topics surrounding puberty, adolescence and sexual health all while maintaining a safe space for our learners to engage and obtain knowledge to further understand the changes their bodies and minds are undergoing.

The Abellana National School is celebrating the 21st National Dental Health Month with the theme, "Pamilya Una Kong Dentista," highlighting the vital role of families and caregivers in promoting oral health, especially for students with disabilities.

Nursing students from the Asian College of Technology, along with their Clinical Instructor, Mr. Luis Ruiz, assisted with Oral Health Education and a Toothbrushing Demonstration for Grade 7 students. Ongoing dental services, including check-ups, consultations, restorations, and extractions, are provided by our school dentist, Dr. Marnie S. Pablo.

Special thanks to our supportive and dedicated school principal, Mrs. Evelyn R. Pielago, for her unwavering support of all our health activities.
