Indsamling til en øjenoperation til 13-årig Mary Grace:
Vi mødte denne familie, da vi en dag gik forbi dem og her sad denne skønne pige med et kæmpe smil på læberne. Vi gik over for at sige hej, og her kunne vi straks konstatere, at hun har en meget slem betændelse i højre øje samt er fysisk og psykisk udviklingshæmmet. Da er det hendes mor, Cecilia, kommer ud, og fortæller os om Mary Grace. Mary
Grace har en slem kronisk øjenbetændelse, der kræver en operation for, at betændelsen ikke spreder sig til hjernen. Selve operationen bliver sponsoreret af regeringen, men der mangler penge til materialer, medicin og 2 vaccinationer til Mary Grace. Der er derfor behov for 5000 danske kroner for at sikre hendes fremtid. Vores møde med familien Ngoho
Igennem vores arbejde på den fattige gade, Pier 4, er vi stødt på en familie, der består af en mor, Cecilia, og hendes mand og 3 børn, heriblandt Mary Grace. Mary Grace og hendes søskende har ikke kontakt med deres far, men Cecilias mand har taget disse to børn til sig som sin egne. På trods, af at Cecilia vidste det ville være svære at overleve i hverdagen uden en mands støtte, valgte Cecilia at forlade sin daværende mand og børnenes far, fordi han både var voldelig overfor dem og havde et stofmisbrug. Hun vidste, at dette ikke var et værdigt liv for hende eller hendes børn. Mary Grace er en 13-årig pige, der er født 4 uger for tidligt samt havde komplikationer under hendes fødsel. Mary Grace er i dag fysisk og psykisk udviklingshæmmet, men har et fantastisk livsglad sind, som smitter så meget af på en selv. Mary Grace er født med både hjerte og lunge problemer, og hun går derfor igennem mange operationer i sine første måneder af sit liv. Mary Grace har i dag fået en kronisk øjenbetændelse, der spreder sig til resten af hovedet, og i værste fald kan sætte sig på hjernen, hvis ikke hun snart opereres for det. Vi har derfor startet denne indsamling fordi familien ikke har mulighed for selv at skaffe penge ind til operation. Operationen og selve forløbet:
Vores formål ved denne indsamling er at skaffe nok penge til materialer til at udføre øjenoperationen, medicin og 2 vaccinationer til Mary Grace. Til øjenoperationen skal vi kun have penge til de forskellige materialer, da selve personalet og indlæggelsen bliver sponsoreret af regeringen. Operationen vil blive udført af Dr. Roman M Cruz and Dr. Vonahian Del Peado på Vicente Sotto Memorial Center OPD i Cebu city. Vi har fået undersøgt Mary Grace af forskellige læger, for at være sikre på at der ikke vil være nogen risici ved at operere hende. Det er både vores, og lægernes formål at Mary Grace skal igennem denne operation uden risici. Mary Grace har et meget lavt immunforsvar, så derfor er det vigtigt hun får to vaccinationer som holder i 10 år. Vi ser det her som en stor helhed, og derfor har vi haft Mary Grace til flere forskellige læger, for at finde ud af hvordan vi kan hjælpe hende i hendes fremtidige liv. Prisen for materialer til øjenoperationen samt medicin er ca. 3000 kr
Diverse udgifter, herunder undersøgelser er ca. 1000 kr.
2 vaccinationer er ca. 900 kr. Vi håber at i vil hjælpe os med at hjælpe denne familie, der i den grad fortjener at kunne få noget ro omkring Mary Grace, så de ikke behøver at bekymre sig om hun overlever i fremtiden. Vi vil ud over denne operation, bruge vores pædagogiske viden til at lærer Mary Grace en ny måde at kunne kommunikere på. Vi vil benytte os af metoden Tegn til Tale, for at give Mary Grace og hendes familie et redskab til at kunne kommunikere sammen. Mary Grace er meget alene hjemme, fordi Cecilia og hendes mand bliver nød til at tage ud i andre områder og sælge bananer for at havde noget at leve af. Derfor har vi også givet Mary Grace en taske med farveblyanter, papir, LEGO, og en lille bamse som hun kan lege med, i de timer hvor resten af familien er væk. Vi kan både mærke og ved, at det går familien meget på at hun er alene, men det er desværre det barske valg de er nødsaget til at tage. Cecilia er en mor, der vil gøre alt for hendes børn. Denne moders gåpåmod og kamp for at gøre alt for hendes datter fik os til at ligge vores fokus på at gøre, hvad vi kan for at prøve at hjælpe med at skaffe penge til Mary Grace’s operation. Throughout our work at an organization, helping homeless kid and kids in fostercare we met this family of 5 members, a mom, a dad and three kids. One day at work we walked past them in the streets, and the thing that caught our eye was the charming smile of a little girl. We went over to say hello, and experienced that the girl had a very severe eye injury and were physically and mentally handicapped. Her mom Cecilia came out from their ”home” to tell us about the girl, which name is Mary Grace. She told us that Mary Graces eye injury is chronical and requires and operation for it not to spread to the brain. The government funds the operation, but they are short in money for medicine, materials and future vaccinations. The amount needed to secure her future is 5000 dkk / 34.000 pesos. Our meeting with the Ngoho family
Throughout our work with homeless kids and family’s we met the Ngoho family. The family has five members, Cecilia(mom), her husband and their three kids, including Mary Grace. Mary Grace is not in contact with her reel dad, but Cecilia’s husband has been taking care of the kids as they were his own. Despite the fact that it is harder to survive without the support of a man/father, Cecilia left her former husband because of his violent behavior towards Cecilia and the kids. She knew that her and the kids’ life wasn’t worthy of man of that kind even though it had consequences. Mary grace is a thirteen-year-old girl, born 4 weeks too early in a complicated birth. This meant that Mary Grace was born with physically and mentally dysfunctions. She was born with heart and lunge issues that meant she had to go through surgery, throughout the first four months of her life. Mary Grace is born with a chronical eye injury that might spread to her brain if she does not soon go through with an operation. These are the facts that forced us to create this fund-raising, because the family could not raise the money themselves. The operation and the future course
Our purpose is to raise money for materials for the operation, medicine and vaccinations for the future course. Some of the materials for the surgery is funded by the government, but not all of them. The operation will be executed by Dr. Roman M. Cruz and Dr. Vonahian Del Peado at Vicente Sotto Memorial Center OPD in Cebu City, which is specialists in this field. We had on our own funded medical visits for Mary Grace, so we clarified the future issues and surgery. She was seen by different doctors to clarify the issues and risks throughout the surgery. It is in our best regards that Mary Grace goes through operation with the minimum risks. Mary Graces immune system is very fragile and that’s why she needs two vaccinations lasting ten years. The costs of the materials for the eye surgery is 3000 dkk/21.000 pesos. The costs of further tests is measured at 1000 dkk/7000 pesos. And the costs of vaccinations is 900 dkk/ 6000 pesos. This makes it a total of almost 5000 dkk /34.000 pesos. We sincerely hope that you will help us help this family, that deserves to secure the future of Mary Grace. Mary Grace is often left alone at home, because the rest of the family needs to sell bananas in the streets of Cebu City to make enough money for survival. It is nagging on the family that they are left helpless in the situation of Mary Grace. The mom of Mary Gace, Cecilia, is a mother that would do anything to help her children but haven’t got the resources to make this operation happen and that’s why she deserves our help.
