NSD Honors Compassionate Care at the 2nd ANAHAW Awards

On October 30, 2025, the Nursing Service Department (NSD) celebrated its dedicated and caring healthcare professionals during the highly anticipated 2nd Nursing Service ANAHAW Awards. This annual Rewards and Recognition program shone a light on outstanding nursing personnel who embody love and value in patient care, ensuring another set of awardees went home with happy smiles and grateful hearts.

The ANAHAW Awards recognize staff members who consistently go above and beyond, exemplifying excellence in various categories. The 2025 awardees are:

Outstanding Nurse: Jhona Marydale Fuella, RN (Annex C3)
Outstanding Midwife: Cerlablen Ybalez, RN (Labor and Delivery Unit)
Outstanding Nursing Aide: Maria Cresabta Oacan (Annex C2)
Outstanding Auxiliary Staff: Luciano Gamboa, Technician (Hemodialysis Unit)
Outstanding Nursing Unit: Neonatal Care Unit

A New Leader Recognized

A special addition to this year's program was the "Head Nurse of the Year" award. This prestigious recognition, presented personally by the Nursing Director, was given to a Unit Head Nurse who demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment, and growth as a nurse leader and truly embodied the Department’s core values.

Celebrating Dedicated Service

The event also honored staff for their long-standing commitment, recognizing both retirees and service awardees. These individuals were appreciated for their dedicated service, which spans the institution's history from the Visayas Community Medical Center up to the present-day VisayasMed Hospital.

All awardees received a specially designed ANAHW trophy and a certificate. This included gifts from the Club Serena Resort, Marina Seaview Restaurant, and the Sheraton Hotel Mactan Cebu.

The Grecian Dream: A Night of Excellence at the VisayasMed Nursing Service Gala

On October 30, 2025, the VisayasMed Hospital Nursing Service Department (NSD) triumphantly concluded their annual NSD Week by trading their scrub suits for a night of splendour. The third annual Gala Night saw staff dressed in Grecian-inspired ensembles, celebrating a year of dedicated hard work and profound sacrifice.

This year's theme, “The Grecian Dream,” was chosen to symbolize the general aspiration of nursing practice itself. It encapsulates the profession's continuous quest for wisdom, knowledge, beauty, harmony, and excellence—the timeless ideals that drive all nurses in their patient care and clinical development.

More than just a celebration, the night was intended as a much-needed escape. It gave the NSD staff a chance to let loose, be carefree, and fully enjoy the moment, successfully de-stressing from the busy daily routines and the demanding nature of bedside patient care.

The elegant event was attended by members of the VisayasMed Management Team, including Sir Ren Domaraos, Chief Operating Officer, who offered a heartfelt toast of encouragement to the entire NSD Team. Representatives from various Hospital Operations Units were also present to share in the festivities.

Adding vibrant colour to the celebration was the gracious attendance of representatives from partner institutions, including schools and training centers that offer nursing education and caregiving services.

As the night progressed, the sound of laughter and joy echoed throughout the venue. The evening successfully concluded, leaving every heart filled with cherished memories and a renewed sense of excitement for the coming year of VisayasMed Nursing excellence.

VisayasMed NSD Hosts Inaugural Inter-School Quiz Bowl

October 28, 2025. In a spirited display of academic excellence, the VisayasMed Hospital Nursing Service Department (NSD) successfully hosted its 1st Inter-School Quiz Bowl. The event, a new highlight of the hospital's Annual Nursing Service Week Celebration, brought together teams from VisayasMed's affiliated nursing schools.

The competition was designed as a testament to the hospital's commitment to fostering camaraderie, healthy sportsmanship, and the continuous professional development of future nurses.

This inaugural quiz bowl featured talented participants from the following institutions:

3rd Nursing Service Week Celebration

It's that time of the year again, when Vismedian Nurses celebrate the Nursing Service Week. An annual celebration of gratitude and appreciation for all nurses of the VisayasMed Hospital.

The Dean of the College of Nursing of the University of Cebu - Jones Campus graced the opening of the 3rd Nursing Service Week celebration as the guest speaker. The UC-Jones is one of the affiliate schools of VisayasMed Hospital.

This year's event is lined up with exciting activities that showcase unity and diversity. This year's theme, " Dreaming of Success, serving with love, guided by wisdom, and leading with grace," encapsulates the VisayasMed Nursing Service Department's Vision of becoming the friendliest nurses in Cebu and a trusted provider of quality nursing care.

VISAYASMED-NSD TEAM ATTENDS PNA NATCON

Davao City. On October 21-24, 2025, NSD management attends the Annual National Convention of the Philippine Nurses Association. This Year, the event was held at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City. Attended by delegates from all over the country, four of them coming from The VisayasMed Hospital, our delegates were Ms. Jen Dayanan, C3 (OB Wing) Head, Ms. Crsitine Calvez, DND for Training and Development, Ms. Nelsa Orcullo, DND for Operations, and Mr. Niko Cantor, Nursing Director.

Along with attending the National Conference, the team also got the chance to be acquainted with some of our fellow nurses from the other hospitals of the AppleOne Medical Group, the United Shalom Hospital and the Brokenshire Medical Center.

VMH-NSD Commemorates 2025 International Nurses Week

May 08, 2025—The VisayasMed Hospital's Nursing Service Department commemorated International Nurses Week with a simple yet memorable one-day event.

The day started with a short program honoring the hospital's nurses and nursing personnel. In the morning, NSD personnel gathered at the VMH White Tent, where the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Ren Dumaraos, opened the event.

One of the program's highlights was a video tribute to the nursing personnel, with doctors and support staff sending their message of gratitude and support. A significant part of the program in the ANAHAW Awards for the employee of the month, awardees for the first quarter of the year, were presented with the recognition, and the awards were given by Mr. Ren Dumaraos, COO, Ms. Ethel Maylon, HR Manager, and Mr. Niko Cantor, Nursing Director.

The ANAHAW Awards Program of the VMH-NSD is the institution's recognition body for outstanding performance and dedicated service of the Nursing Service personnel.

In the afternoon, the commemoration continued with a lecture series by the NSD Education and Research Committee. Nurses attended a lecture on the Basics of ECG, part of the department's Training and Development program.

The NSD is very grateful for the continued support of the hospital's management, led by our COO, Mr. Ren Dumaraosn. Also, and most importantly, we are very thankful for the dedication to service and patient care of all the Nurses, Midwives, Nursing Aides, Technicians, Orderlies, and NSD Clerks/Secretaries.

International Nurses Week is celebrated annually worldwide. The International Nursing Council leads the celebrations, which recognize and appreciate nurses' vital contributions and honor the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing practice. The celebration concludes on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday.

NSD Happenings

VisayasMed Hospital updated two facilities to improve its service for its stakeholders.

Two nursing stations under the Nursing Service Department were renovated to provide a more relaxed, conducive, and, most importantly, safe place for our nurses and doctors to work.

On April 30, 2025, Annex C1, which primarily caters to medical-surgical cases patients, was blessed after its renovation. At an earlier date, on February 04, 2025, Annex C2, which also caters to medical-surgical cases, was also blessed following its renovation.

In two months, VisayasMed Hospital improved two nursing facilities, showing its commitment to caring for its employees and providing better service for its clients.
