Rico Sibonghanoy's story is truly inspiring.

His battle with depression began in 2017, leading him to substance abuse that nearly drove him to having some mental disorder, as he started experiencing hallucinations and paranoia.

After a severe episode in 2018, he was taken to Safehaven for help. At that time, Rico was physically unhealthy and emotionally blank.

Gradually, he began to heal mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Throughout his recovery, he often cried, longing to reunite with his children and provide them with a better life. After completing his treatment and rehabilitation at Safehaven, he felt blessed and even started volunteering, eventually becoming the head of Safehaven Recovery Village security.

Just recently, yesterday March 31 2026, one of the happiest moments of his life occurred when he witnessed his daughter graduate, marking a significant turnaround from the lost father he once was to a proud parent celebrating joy and achievement with his child.❤️

SAFEHAVEN IN ACTION: BUILDING HOPE BEYOND OUR WALLS ❤️

Our very own psychologist, Abby, was invited to serve as a speaker and facilitator in a 5-day Advanced Community-Based Mental Health Training held at Parañaque City Hall.

Together with over 50 doctors, nurses, and barangay health workers, this initiative strengthened the capacity of frontliners to provide compassionate, community-based mental health care.

At Safehaven Recovery Village, we believe that healing extends beyond our centre, it reaches communities, empowers caregivers, and creates a ripple of hope for those who need it most.

We are proud of you, Abby, for continuing to champion mental health and for helping raise more Hope Warriors in the field.

Grounded in the principles of the 12-Step framework, this session provides a structured environment where clients can develop self-awareness, accountability, and peer support.

Facilitated in a group setting, the meeting encourages participants to share experiences, reflect on personal progress, and reinforce coping strategies essential for long-term recovery. Regular participation supports:

• Emotional regulation and reflection
• Strengthening of social support systems
• Development of responsibility and routine
• Reinforcement of recovery-oriented thinking

By integrating consistency, guided discussion, and community engagement, the Morning 12 Steps Meeting helps establish a stable foundation for ongoing recovery.

At Safehaven, healing is approached as a process—supported by evidence-based practices, structure, and compassionate care. ❤️

He underwent rehabilitation six times and was apprehended by police, orderlies, and rescue teams on five occasions, only to be taken back to rehab. Each time he entered rehab, he was consumed by rage and anger, often under the influence of drugs.

While many labeled him as "hopeless," his mother remained a steadfast source of support. In 2015, he rediscovered his faith, and after enduring six rehab stints and 18 years of addiction, he transitioned from being a patient to becoming the Facility Director of Safehaven Recovery Village..

Inspired by Sir Ronnie G. Delos Santos (Safehaven CEO) and the recovery coaches he began volunteering, pursued training and seminars, and returned to school to study addiction.

Recovery Coach Emmanuel possesses a deep compassion for those grappling with addiction. He is approaching his 11th year of sobriety.

The family is understandably anxious, as their loved one is showing signs of paranoia and aggressive behavior.

The rescue team is asking for your prayers for a safe and successful rescue.

The individual will be taken to Safehaven Recovery Village for treatment and rehabilitation.🙏
