The woke mentality refers to a heightened awareness of social and political inequity, discrimination and injustice. It is not a new concept and initially applied to racism and gender discrimination.
In medical education, it strives to "level the field" by making opportunities for the less privileged and the marginalized. Medical students and physicians must speak up, argue, understand, and be involved.
The woke culture has an ambivalent nature. It is a positive force which originated from the necessity to correct issues of political, social, gender equity. However, in its the context where wokeness has become movement that refuses to tolerate dissent, it hampers its own evolution will most likely sooner or later collapse under its weight if it remains in its current trajectory.
