This Araw ng Kagitingan, we gathered as one family to recognize the academic achievements of our children and young people. Because courage isn't only found on battlefields, sometimes it looks like a kid showing up to class every single day, choosing not to quit.
True to this year's theme, Filipino Graduates: Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character, our Village Director, Tatay D**g, stepped off the stage, walked into the crowd of achievers, and asked our achievers: "What does competence mean to you?"
Arriana*, our Graduation Speaker, didn't hesitate (or open Google to know what it means). For her, being competent means being equipped, absorbing every skill the classroom offers, and learning to adapt as the ways of teaching shift with technology. That kind of awareness, at her age, is its own kind of brave.
To every achiever we honored: your discipline is your heroism. Keep leading with competence and character.
*Name changed to protect the child's identity.
