The life of a doctor is often challenging and underappreciated.
To all my patients, clients, and friends, let’s take a moment to recognize the dedication and sacrifices that doctors make for their profession.
Real scenarios in my practice:
• “Doc, I have glutathione, botox, and mesolipo here; I’ll provide the medicine, and you just inject it. Can I just pay for the injection?”
Remember, your doctor’s expertise encompasses more than just the procedure; it reflects years of training and hard work. (For instance, if your business is construction, would you agree to build a house where I only pay for the cement?) 🤦🏻♂️
• “Doc, can I just pay for the medical certificate without the consultation?”
Consulting with a professional is invaluable. Their knowledge and experience are worth every cent. Is it acceptable to issue a medical certificate without a check-up? 🥲
• “Doc, can you give me a big discount? The procedure was quick anyway.”
Quality care deserves fair compensation. It’s not just about the time spent; it’s about the commitment to your well-being. If I complete a job in 5 minutes, it’s because it took me 10 years to learn how to do it in 5 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes.
• “Hi friend, can you do it for free? I’ll be your model.”
Utilizing a doctor’s skills for free undervalues the years they’ve invested in their training. In my experience as an MDpreneur, I’ve noticed that in business, it’s often strangers who truly support you, while friends may sometimes take advantage (though not all).
• “Doc, why is your rate higher compared to the spa next door?”
Remember, you’re not just paying for a service; you’re investing in your health and safety with a licensed and trained professional. If it’s not affordable, please refrain from making comparisons. 🙂
• “Doc, I’ll pay you next time; you still have a lot of money anyway.”
A doctor’s time and expertise are precious; delaying payment doesn’t reflect the value they provide. Just because we don’t ask doesn’t mean you shouldn’t provide timely compensation for their work. Please be responsible with your obligations.
• “Doc, your salary is delayed because my clients haven’t paid me yet.”
It’s important to recognize that their commitment to your health often comes at a personal cost, and timely payments reflect the respect and value of their work.
• “Doc, give a big discount to this client because we’re close.”
While it’s great to have friends, asking for significant discounts because of personal ties can undervalue a doctor’s hard work. Supporting them means recognizing their worth and paying them fairly. Try enrolling in school and training to see if you’ll be given a discount by the institution.
Let’s acknowledge the years of hard work and sacrifice that doctors invest in their profession. They give their all without asking for discounts. By appreciating their skills and dedication, we uplift them and show them the respect they deserve.
Certainly, other medical specialties have similar scenarios in different cases. Many people think doctors lead the best lives and are very wealthy, but that’s not true. They are often undervalued and not compensated fairly.
If you feel unappreciated or taken advantage of because of your kindness, consider moving on. Pursue opportunities where your efforts are genuinely valued.
