About De Los Reyes Optical
Enrique "Yaman" de los Reyes, an optician, and his brother Dr. Estanislao "Vigan" de los Reyes, an optometrist, started De Los Reyes Trading in Sta. They were sons of the illustrious Don Isabelo de los Reyes, a senator and the father of Labor in the Philippines. Then, Enrique met and married Crisanta Enopia of Dalaguete, Cebu. Consequently, De Los Reyes Trading expanded
its operations in Cebu and in 1950, Enrique opened a retail store, selling frames, lenses and musical instruments at P. Gullas St.: De Los Reyes Optical & Music Supply. Husband and wife attended to the customers personally. Over the years, the customers became close friends and loyal patrons. Meanwhile, Enrique de los Reyes became a Cebuano, by choice. Only child, Sally Rufina, wanted to take up Medicine but was persuaded by her parents to shift to Optometry. They wanted her to learn to love the profession which she did, so much, she graduated with honors from Centro Escolar University and topped the Optometry Board. Soon after Dr. Sally de los Reyes later married marketing man (a MICAA star player) Antonio Lyon de las P***s. They have three intelligent sons who are all into optometry, ensuring Enrique de los Reyes' love of the profession in the third generation. Eldest son, Dr. Glenn Mark Anthony, graduated summa cm laude from Cebu Doctors College of Optometry (now Cebu Doctors University). He placed 5th in the 1988 Optometry Board Exam. He is also an Ophthalmologist and placed 3rd in the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology. He holds the distinction of being the first Filipino member of the Contact Lens Society of America. Second son, Dr. Jose Enrique, also graduated with honors from Cebu Doctors College of Optometry and was a board topnotcher. He was also a Leadership Awardee. He married a classmate, Dr. Jill Johns (a Filipino-American), increasing the number of optometrists in the family. When Enrique passed away in 1977, Dr. Sally took over management of the clinics. Dr. Sally asked the help of her very supportive husband and they decided to restructure operations. Tony's focus was to widen the selection of eyewear available in the clinics.
