Ministry of Health Joins the 3rd Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill
September 26, 2024, 9:00 AM – Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health (MOH) actively participated in the 3rd Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on September 26, 2024, at 9:00 AM. The exercise, facilitated by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) Unit, was aimed at enhancing the preparedness and awareness of MOH staff regarding earthquake safety and response protocols.

The drill began with the sounding of alarms across the Ministry’s offices, signaling the start of the exercise. Employees were instructed to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" — the recommended safety procedure during an earthquake. Participants then proceeded to designated evacuation areas in an orderly manner, following pre-established emergency exit routes.

MOH’s participation in the NSED underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of its workforce in the face of potential natural disasters. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to strengthen disaster resilience and promote a culture of safety in workplaces and communities nationwide.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) recently conducted a five-day training program for 342 MNLF/MILF medics serving as Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in Maguindanao Province. Held at Camp Darapanan Gym in Simuay, Sultan Kudarat and MOH Covered Court, from September 2nd to 6th, the training aimed to enhance the skills and capacity of these frontline healthcare workers.

As part of the program, the Disaster Risk Reduction Management in Health (DRRM-H) team facilitated a session on hands-only CPR. This training focused on teaching participants how to recognize cardiac arrest, call for emergency help, and perform effective chest compressions until professional assistance arrives. Emphasis was placed on the simplicity and effectiveness of the hands-only CPR technique, making it practical and easy to remember for medics who often work in remote and resource-limited areas.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the training and recognized the importance of learning such a practical skill, which could potentially save lives during emergencies.
