MARAWI IDPs engaged in Social Enterprise

Look gorgeous with these cunning accessories beautifully crafted by a group of displaced persons in Marawi City.

ARETES is a Meranaw term for 'Earrings'. It is an accessory used traditionally by women.

They used 'Langkit' as the primary material in producing the Aretes. Langkit is a traditional decorative fabric handwoven by Meranaw women. This makes Aretes unique and ingenious.

It is a social enterprise that aims to provide income opportunity to a specific Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sagonsongan, Marawi City, once devastated by the war.

It also aims to revitalize and promote the culture of weaving among Meranao women which has been slowly forgotten due to lack of patronage, promotion and innovation.

This group of IDPs call themselves ARETES Collection, which also produces other accessories such as bow-tie, head-bands, cellphone casing, bracelets among others.

According to them, there are always better ways to look and feel beautiful.

If you buy and wear ARETES, you are doing it with a purpose because you help certain IDPs in Marawi City.

Farming is more fun & fulfilling if organic. Thank you again and again E-Motion for priceless support to Mibpulo Unified Agriculture Cooperative 💚

BLUE TEA

The Blue Ternate plant has become a household name especially among the health conscious individuals.

The plant has been around for centuries and its health benefits have been enjoyed by many civilizations.

It has many names. It is also known as Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea). The Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions use this wonder plant for many purposes especially for healthy food regimen.

We at E-MOTION is studying more about this plant and how we can maximise its potentials to support healthy nutrition. We are working with BUSIKONG GREENLAND and MIBPULO UNIFIED AGRICULTURE for its propagation using our green technology without the intervention of synthetic chemicals.

The Majestic Herbs, a group promoting the use of herbal remedies has summarized the health benefits of this plant.

🌿IMPROVE EYESIGHT

Clitoria Ternatea contains an antioxidant called proanthocyanidin, which increases blood flow to the capillaries of the eyes, useful in treatment of glaucoma, blurred vision, retinal damage or tired eyes.

🌿IMPROVE HAIR GROWTH

Rich in bioflavonoids, Butterfly Pea can promote hair growth and reduce greying of hair.

🌿IMPROVE SKIN

Butterfly Pea’s antioxidants stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, which helps rejuvenate the skin and lessen wrinkles and other signs of ageing.

🌿APHRODISIAC

Butterfly Pea has been traditionally used as an aphrodisiac particularly for women and used to treat menstruation problems or white vaginal discharge (leucorrhoea).

🌿ANTIOXIDANT

Flavonoids, anthocyanins and phenolic compounds in Butterfly Pea flowers activate antioxidant activity, which helps decrease oxidative stress caused by disease causing and ageing free radicals.

🌿NOOTROPIC

Butterfly Pea has been shown to enhance cognitive function and boost brain function.

🌿DIURETIC

Butterfly Pea promotes normal urination, which in turn lowers blood pressure

🌿ANALGESIC

Clitoria Ternatea has been used traditionally as a local anaesthetic as it has been shown to help relieve pain and swelling.

🌿ANXIOLYHIC

Butterfly Pea has a calming effect on the body, reducing stress and anxiety

🌿ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

The deep indigo flowers contain flavonoids. Found in almost all fruits and vegetables, flavonoids are powerful antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits.

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITY

The photo shows Fahamia Pangilan, the treasurer of the Mibpulo Unified Agriculture Cooperative from GSKP, Maguindanao, BARMM 🇵🇭.

She actively participated during the training on and as an essential component of the Organic Diversified & Integrated Gardening System (ODIGS).

In the picture, Fahamia is shown mixing the substrates, which were collected from the community. These are organic matters used as the breeding place and food for the earthworms. The worms will reproduce while the by-product is Vermicompost, a natural organic fertilizer.

Presently, the earthworms are sold at a minimum P700.00 pero kilo and only available at certain institutions like universities. The group bought their initial kilogram of worm from MSU-Maguindanao.

The Cooperative is adopting the organic system of crop production because of its manifold positive impacts in the community, environment and on human health.

The 25-member cooperative has recruited 7 women members. Two women hold key positions - Vice Chairperson and Treasurer.

With the organic system, it is aimed at securing food at household level and secondarily providing opportunity for income generation.

The training is the initial intervention for the cooperative. There are lined up activities for them to ensure their sustained growth and development as a group, thus positively influencing their community.

E-Motion is providing technical support to MUAC. To facilitate this training and to discuss the concepts of ODIGS, E-Motion fielded Duoi Ampilan, who is a community work expert and humanitarian & development work specialist.

WOMEN, WORMS & WORK

Babu Ramla, a female member of the Mibpulo Unified Agriculture Cooperative of General Salipada K. Pendatun Municipality in Maguindanao Province, BARMM 🇵🇭, is showing a bunch of earthworms during their training on Worm Culture and Organic Fertilizer Production.

E-Motion brought in the humanitarian, development and training specialist Duoi Ampilan who facilitated the said training.

The training is part of the capacity building initiatives of the Cooperative on Organic Diversified and Integrated Gardening System.

One essential part of the training is the Vermiculture or Worm Production. Earthworms are the key players in the production of organic fertilizer.

Because of the high cost of the earthworms, which are available in certain universities, the members were trained to culture worms. The cost of a kilo of worms starts from P700.00.

The by-product of the worm culture is vermicompost. The second part of the training is the Vermicomposting using the worms.

The 3rd part of the training is the actual demonstration includes bed preparation, substrate preparation then the introduction of the earthworms into their new environment.

This kind of training aims to produce more worms and organic fertilizer, which are essential parts of the organic crop production.

The learning is a continuous process. E-Motion will continuously provide technical assistance to the Cooperative.

Because these farmers are being capacitated for this kind of skills, it is expected that their production cost will be lessened.

Organic farming system is beneficial to both man and nature. It lowers production costs. It produces health-beneficial crops. It improves soil fertility.
