📰 LOOK: Nutrition Support Prepositioned Ahead of Emergencies in Daet
As part of Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE), the Municipal Nutrition Committee, through the leadership of Municipal Mayor and MNC Chair Hon. Rossano C. Valencia and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Lurene T. Tejada, led the distribution of Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) for pregnant women and Iron-Folic Acid (IFA) supplements for both pregnant and lactating women across various barangays of the municipality.
The MMS were generously provided by the JLo Big Heart Foundation, through the help of the Provincial Nutrition Committee, while the IFA supplements were sourced through the support of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Daet, headed by MDRRMO Mr. Santiago M. Mella Jr.
The activity was facilitated by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Anita P. Auro, Nutrition Officer II, together with Nursing Attendant II Glenda C. Artiaga, with the support of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management for Health (DRRM- H) through its focal person, Nurse III Fara F. Calimlim. This initiative aims to ensure that nutritionally vulnerable groups are protected even before emergencies strike.
In addition to the distribution, monitoring of breastfeeding practices and compliance with EO 51 was conducted in the barangay health stations. This component is crucial in safeguarding optimal infant and young child feeding practices, especially during emergencies, when the risk of inappropriate promotion and use of breastmilk substitutes may increase. Ensuring compliance helps uphold the rights of mothers to breastfeed and protects the health of infants in crisis situations.
This proactive initiative highlights LGU Daet’s strong commitment to disaster preparedness and maternal and child health—reinforcing that in times of crisis, nutrition is a life-saving priority.
