DAET HOLDS SABAYANG PAGHAKAB 2025 IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS MONTH
The Municipality of Daet thru the Municipal Health Office Of Daet and the Municipal Nutrition Committee successfully conducted the Sabayang Paghakab 2025 on August 19, 2025 at Bulwagang Eming Panotes, as part of the nationwide observance of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month with the theme: “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System.”
The activity commenced with messages of support from Dr. Lurene T. Tejada, Municipal Health Officer, and Dr. Raychel B. Valencia, Municipal Administrator, both of whom emphasized the importance of strengthening local health programs that support mothers and children.
An overview of the Breastfeeding Month Celebration was presented by Ms. Anita P. Auro, RM, RN, MAN, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer/Nutrition Officer II. She discussed the municipality’s initiatives to promote breastfeeding and stressed the need for collective action in sustaining such efforts. In her message, Ms. Auro cited the organization of the Kalinga ng Daetenyang Nanay as a concrete example of a sustainable support system—an empowering group of mothers who provide peer counseling, encouragement, and community-based assistance to fellow breastfeeding women in Daet.
The highlight of the event was a lecture entitled “Nutrisyon, Proteksyon, Kalinga: Ang Halaga ng Pagpapasuso” delivered by Mr. Glenn Paolo B. Morales, RND, DOH Nutritionist-Dietitian II. The lecture tackled the multifaceted benefits of breastfeeding—not only as the safest and most complete source of nutrition for infants, but also as a vital foundation for disease prevention, emotional bonding, and economic sustainability. Morales also underscored the collective responsibility of families, communities, and institutions in creating a support system that encourages and sustains breastfeeding practices.
The event gathered 56 breastfeeding mothers who actively participated in the discussions and learning sessions. Each one of them received Twin Lampein Pants courtesy of Megasoft Hygienic. They were joined by members of Kalinga ng Daetenyang Nanay (KDN), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Barangay Health Workers (BHW), DOH Human Resources for Health (HRH), and the staff of the Nutrition Office.
Now on its second year, Sabayang Paghakab has become a continuing platform for advocacy, awareness, and community solidarity in promoting breastfeeding. The Municipality of Daet reaffirms its commitment to the national campaign to promote and protect breastfeeding, ensuring that the health and nutrition of mothers and children remain a priority.
By prioritizing breastfeeding and fostering a sustainable support system—anchored by both government initiatives and community-driven organizations like the Kalinga ng Daetenyang Nanay—Daet continues to contribute to the nationwide goal of building healthier and well-nourished families and communities.
