PUBLIC HEALTH INITIATIVE: Empowering Communities Through Health Advocacy!

Today, April 21, 2026, the Public Health Unit successfully conducted an advocacy lecture at Zone 5, Kamachile, Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City bringing essential health knowledge closer to the community.

With the guidance of Dr. Nela Florian Burca and Mr. Bradley Bianzon, together with the dedicated PHU staff, the activity aimed to educate and empower residents through discussions on:

🥗 7 Healthy Habits – building a strong foundation for everyday wellness
🐾 Rabies Awareness – protecting families and pets from preventable risks
🌊 Drowning Prevention – promoting safety, especially among children
🦠 WILD Diseases – increasing awareness on common and emerging health concerns

This initiative highlights the importance of community participation in achieving a healthier and safer environment. Through shared knowledge and collective action, we can prevent illnesses, reduce risks, and promote overall well-being in every household.

Prevention starts with awareness, and awareness begins in the community.

PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT ADVISORY:

The Public Health Unit of Region 1 Medical Center joins and supports the observance of Drowning Prevention Month by promoting awareness on water safety. Everyone is encouraged to practice simple measures such as close supervision of children, avoiding risky behavior near water, and using life-saving devices. Learning basic rescue and first aid skills can help save lives in emergencies. Together, we can prevent drowning and keep our communities safe.

The Surgery Department, in collaboration with the Public Health Unit, conducted a Fire Prevention Advocacy Lecture at the Astrodome, Dagupan City last March 27, 2026. This initiative is a step forward in creating safer, better-prepared communities! Armed with enhanced knowledge and skills, our Barangay Health Workers are now essential partners in promoting fire safety.

Here are some reminders for fire safety precautions:

Herbosa, sets the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 12203, signed into law on May 8, 2025, directing the DOH Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City to increase its capacity from 600 to 1,500 beds, with the IRR also covering for the DOH R1MC operations and management.

🌊 R1MC Public Health Unit Joins Drowning Prevention Health Event 🌊

The R1MC Public Health Unit participated in the Major Health Event on Drowning Prevention organized by the Ilocos Center for Health Development – Health Promotion Unit, held at Currimao, Ilocos Norte last March 12, 2026.

The activity was attended by representatives from the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) Public Health Unit, namely Dr. Nela Florian Burca, Mr. Bradley Bianzon, Ms. Marlyn Javier, Ms. Rhyza Michaela Villamil, Ms. Arlene De Guzman, and Mr. Franklin Kyle Garcia, who joined other healthcare professionals and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from the barangays of Currimao in promoting awareness on water safety and drowning prevention.

The activity highlighted the importance of drowning prevention, especially in communities near coastal areas and bodies of water. Through interactive games and learning activities, BHW participants gained valuable knowledge on water safety practices, recognizing drowning risks, and ways to help prevent drowning incidents in their communities.

R1MC proudly supports initiatives that promote health education, injury prevention, and community safety. Together, let us continue to spread awareness and encourage everyone to be more mindful and responsible around water to help prevent drowning incidents.
