Empowering Communities Through Health Advocacy!

Today, April 21, 2026, the Public Health Unit successfully conducted an advocacy lecture at Zone 5, Kamachile, Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City bringing essential health knowledge closer to the community.
With the guidance of Dr. Nela Florian Burca and Mr. Bradley Bianzon, together with the dedicated PHU staff, the activity aimed to educate and empower residents through discussions on:
🥗 7 Healthy Habits – building a strong foundation for everyday wellness
🐾 Rabies Awareness – protecting families and pets from preventable risks
🌊 Drowning Prevention – promoting safety, especially among children
🦠 WILD Diseases – increasing awareness on common and emerging health concerns
This initiative highlights the importance of community participation in achieving a healthier and safer environment. Through shared knowledge and collective action, we can prevent illnesses, reduce risks, and promote overall well-being in every household.
Prevention starts with awareness, and awareness begins in the community.

The Public Health Unit, in cooperation with the Manaoag Rural Health Unit, successfully celebrated National Immunization Awareness Month at the Wellness Center, Manaoag Complex, on April 29, 2026.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Hannah Jane Gutay - Medical Officer III and Mr. Bradley Bianzon - Health Education and Promotion Officer II for sharing their valuable knowledge and emphasizing the importance of vaccination in protecting lives and strengthening our community.
This meaningful event was further strengthened through the guidance of Dr. Nela Florian Burca together with the dedicated efforts of the PHU staff, whose commitment to public health continues to inspire collective action toward a healthier society.

R1MC Department of Anesthesiology proudly congratulates its graduate, Dr. Miguel Patrick I. Cerezo, for passing the Written Clinical Examination administered by the Board of Anesthesiology.

The Department likewise extend its warmest congratulations to its Pain Specialist Consultant, Dr. Kristine Ivory G. Laurencio-Mendoza, MD, DPBPM, for successfully passing the Philippine Board of Anesthesiology Pain Medicine Examination.

ICYMI | Senate Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography in the Philippines Senator Risa Hontiveros' visit to Region I Medical Center Pediatric Ward.

The Region 1 Medical Center actively participated in the recent capacity building hosted by the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center entitled Project ICON (Infection Control Outreach Network) Year 5. The activity promotes good governance and camaraderie among hospitals under the Department of Health focusing on Infection Prevention and Control Best Practices to capacitate RHU, Level 1 & 2 hospitals with its main goal: No IPC facility is left behind.

The R1MC was represented by the Infectious Disease Center-Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Management Office (HIPCMO) supervising nurse, Ms. Stephanie Espinoza, who also took the time to share the institution’s Performance Governance System (PGS) journey as the 1st DOH Retained Hospital to attain PGS Institutionalization second to the Philippine Heart Center. The R1MC was also recognized as an Island of Good Governance. This only proves that R1MC has consistently lived up to its pursuit of service with excellence.

GAD CORNER | Ang World Immunization Week ay ipinagdiriwang tuwing huling linggo ng Abril, na may temang “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.”

Ipinapaalala nito na ang bakuna ay para sa lahat. 💉
Sa bawat pagpapabakuna, napoprotektahan natin hindi lamang ang ating sarili kundi pati ang ating pamilya at komunidad laban sa mga vaccine-preventable diseases.

Siguraduhing kumpleto ang bakuna ng inyong mga anak at ng buong pamilya. Maaari kayong makipag-ugnayan sa aming Pediatric Outpatient Clinic para sa mga katanungan at karagdagang impormasyon tungkol sa mga bakuna.

GAD CORNER || In observance of World Malaria Day, a lay forum was conducted to increase awareness about malaria. The activity provided essential information on its causes, modes of transmission, common signs and symptoms, as well as prevention and early treatment. Participants were encouraged to recognize early symptoms such as fever, chills, and headache, and to seek prompt medical consultation. Preventive measures, including proper sanitation, elimination of mosquito breeding sites, and use of protective measures like mosquito nets, were also emphasized. This initiative aims to empower the community with knowledge and promote proactive health-seeking behavior to help prevent and control malaria.

IN PHOTOS | Senator Risa Hontiveros visits Region 1 Medical Center, making rounds in the Pediatric Ward and the Women and Children Protection Unit (WACPU).

During her visit, Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, spent time checking on patients and speaking with healthcare workers.

The visit underscored the importance of sustained support for frontline services, especially those caring for children and other vulnerable sectors, as public hospitals continue to expand access to quality healthcare.
